We have arrived America... the First Anti-Peace protest...
Only in Karl Rove's America.

Where a war hero who ran for POTUS was made out to be a coward who shot himself for the Purple Heart.

Where it makes sense to sell American jobs to the lowest bidders and keep the borders of this country wide open to anyone who cares to cross them.

And where a Gold Star Mother who wants nothing more but an honest answer as to why her son gave his life, is made out to be a subversive who intends to bring down civilization itself.

When will this evil, alternate reality go away?

2. Jesus was the first peace activist
That's what really sickens me about this new world order. They twist everything into something it's not especially reliigon.

5. No, it was Barbra Streisand!
You think I'm kidding? I had a Freeper friend in the Clinton years who used to rail against Barbra at great length as if she were responsible for U.S. policy!

Sheesh. The only thing I blame her for is "Yentl".

Definitely worse than Hanoi Jane's 'Barbarella' - IMHO.

6. This happened in the Vietnam era, too
The papers often had a photo of an old guy, either bald or with a crewcut, yelling at a "long haired hippie with a peace sign." Flying spittle was always a plus.

The right had the "AMERICA: LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT" bumper stickers. The "no dissent" theme is not new, either!

If you were for peace, you clearly were against LAW AND ORDER (that was the divide-and-conquer tactic back then). The cops were totally conned...nowadays, since a shitload of them are in the reserves, they can't use that cute trick.

Agnew called the media a bunch of 'nattering nabobs' because they weren't buying his bullshit, and asking critical questions.

Same shit, faster media, more methods of communication...

can you believe so much time has passed since then and now? doesn't look like the world has learned a thing.

Up is down, etc.

Pro-war rallies are a little bizarre, tho, dontcha think?

7. when America no longer exists
The position of the reich wing is unassailable. Only external forces that destroy the entire country could possibly dislodge them. This is more likely to be a result of provoking the rest of the world to military action against us than Bushler's self-destructive economic policies (AFAICT those are intended to push commoners into IMF slavery and allow the CIA and other BFEE fronts to go stateless a la BCCI while assuming the position of the IMF wrt. debt extraction).

Has there been a chimp sighting today or is he curled up in a fetal postion under his desk? Seriously a real leader would head this off now.

14. Ship of Fools
The song "Ship of Fools (Save Me From Tomorrow)" by World Party just sums it all up. And this is from the 1980s. Things haven't gotten any better---they are much worse, by far, and I didn't think that was possible. :(

We're setting sail
To the place on the map
From which no one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burn
Drawn by the promise of the women and the lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world
On this trip, baby

You will pay tomorrow
You gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow

CHORUS:
Save me
Save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail in this ship of fools
Save me
Save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail in this ship of fools

I want to run and hide
Right now...

Avarice and greed
Are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
Or drowning in the oceans of history
Traveling the world
You're in search of no good
But I'm sure you'll build your Sodom
Like you knew you would
Using all the good people
For your galley slaves
As your little boat struggles
Through the warning waves

But you don't pay
You will pay tomorrow
You gonna pay tomorrow
You gonna pay tomorrow

(CHORUS)

Where's it coming from?
Where's it going to?
It's just a ship of fools...

Here we go...
All aboard...

17. It is the media.
Most of the people simply cannot think for themselves. They literally repeat what they are told to think.

If we ever make it out of this mess, we need to make sure something like this never happens again.

31. The media represents their corporate owners and sponsors NOT THE PEOPLE
Audiences aren't important, sponsors are.

Corporate owned media IS THE ENEMY of our democracy.

26. Most of our fellow countrymen and women
live in an alternate reality. It may go away if the multitudes suddenly get a hankering to turn off their TVs and start reading in their spare time. You know, such books as:
"A People's History of the United States"
"What's the Matter With Kansas?"
"Perpetual War for Perpetual Peace"
"Who Will Tell the People?"
"Perfectly Legal"
"Taking Risk Out of Democracy"
The list goes on and on.
Keeping ones head in the sand is so much easier in this kinder and gentler America.

protest. I don't think that could be true; most of the video shots showed only a few.
