DUers! We have an NFL Quarterback meet: Kyle Orton-Chicago Bears
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 05:36 PM by wndycty
I know this may be moved to another forum, but I wanted to share this with as many DUers as possible. We now have a quarterback to root for.

Orton makes strong bid to win starting QB job

The backup quarterback is typically the most popular guy in town, but the cheers for Kyle Orton only intensified in volume during the rookie's impressive performance in Friday night's preseason win over Buffalo.

Orton made a strong bid to win the starting job by completing 7 of 11 passes for 74 yards with 1 touchdown and a 113.4 quarterback rating.

A football junkie, he is not. Engage him in a political chat, and you'll learn he loves Al Franken and loathes Rush Limbaugh. He might even pursue a career in politics.

High School: Southeast Polk, Runnels, Iowa.

Hobbies: Liberal politics, watching "Seinfeld." Dreams of someday running for office in Iowa after his playing career is over.
Bonus Money: Received a $470,000 signing bonus on a four-year, $1.84 million contract with the Bears.

18. He's Gotta Be Tough!
He made it through Purdue without drinking the red kool-aid! (Of course, he probably drank everything else, if what my brother-in-law says is true...) ;)

Best of luck to Orton on the starting job. I may have to start watching football again, tho I don't know if I can handle the Bears w/o Walter Peyton. (GAWD what a running back. Pure poetry in motion. Sigh.)

Okay, I'm over Peyton. Orton will do. :hi:

5. He's originally an Iowan
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 05:45 PM by Bluzmann57
out near Des Moines I believe. He rejected the University of Iowa for Purdue for whatever reason(s), most likely because he liked the offensive scheme there. But I can't root for a damn Bear, no matter what. Well, lets hope he does ok, but not his team. Begrudgingly.
edited for crappy typing.

26. Sorry, but for me as a Hawkeye fan...
His big mistake was not playing for Iowa... Especially as a native Iowan! Drew Tate looks to be the real deal at Iowa now... Hoping he's got liberal politics too, though he's from Texas...

30. At least us Iowa fans can be happy that Alex Karras supported Kerry!
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 02:34 AM by calipendence

This article also indicates a list of other pro athletes that supported Kerry. A bit interesting that they say that Lance Armstrong "leaned left" and was against the Iraq war. A bit inconsistent with his recent bike ride with Bush...

Grant Hill appears to have taken some pretty strong political positions!

Sorry, but it's the truth. You're all still bitter about Chuck Long, aren't you? Hehehe. Go Cyclones.

He was Pat Tillman's best friend in college.

Check NewsMeat some time to see who donated to whom. Bottom line - rich people love their tax cuts.

Tim Russert and Wolf Blitzer.

My hometown sometimes sucks bigtime!

I can't even eat chicken wings anymore because they're bad for my health!

Liberal politics and Seinfeld? It don't get better than that! I'm pretty sure "TV's Fab 4" (Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer) all supported Kerry last year, too.
