Is Cindy Sheehan against all war?
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 06:06 PM by Eric J in MN
letter in Aug. 26, 2005 Minneapolis Star Tribune:

"The Star Tribune's Aug. 24 editorial ("Peace's face / Lourey makes a powerful witness") glosses over a few important points. First, Cindy Sheehan certainly has the right to protest the war, as do all Americans. But Sheehan is not opposed to just the war in Iraq; she is opposed to all war. There is a huge difference."

Anyone know where he go the "all war" thing from?

5. There is no such thing as a "war on poverty".
That is another ridiculous phrase like a war on terrorism or drugs. You can't have a war on an idea. What was done in Iraq war an invasion. So none of the above are really properly used.

Welcome to DU...off to a great start.
This was a bit of irony, get it, a play on words. That happens around here every now and then but I do appreciate the lecture and disqualification of my post.

8. I don't think he was criticizing you. I think he was criticizing the
people who came up with the expression.

10. Actually, I'm not that serious...
...a few too many lectures around here lately.

How about a "War on Subtlty" or "War on Bad Irony"...maybe name a few islands after these terms and the issue's settled.

7. George Carlin says we should find a new metaphor instead of
branding causes as wars.

11. A "War on the Use of War as a Metaphor"
That would work.

12. The letter writer has it wrong. Just last night, Cindy told Maher...
that "we would all want to protect America and protect our communities if we had to, but not die to make other people rich for greed and power"

I don't know if there's a transcript, but here's the link. This exchange starts at about 4:30
