Please contact CNN about misrepresentation of Sheehan Camp Casey...
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 06:10 PM by WiseButAngrySara
Everything that I've heard today has slanted the numbers of protestors in favor of the anti-Sheehan, Pro-Bush group, and has never mentioned the fact that these groups are, in part, funded by the RNC. Below is my letter of error/complaint, with a direct link to that complaint form.

http://www.cnn.com/virtual/editions/europe/2000/roof/change.pop/frameset.exclude.html

CNN Error Report

Ed Lavendera has at best, distorted the truth, and at worst, is a blatant liar. He reports that the numbers are roughly equivalent at Camp Casey and the so-called pro-Bush Pro-War team. The first time that I watched this event covered today, the only photos and chants in the backgound were Pro-War, and it gave an illusion of what is actually occuring there at Camp Casy. Check out the internet yourselves! You are supposed to be covering the news, which is the truth; you are not licensed to make it up as you go along! Lavendera has failed to mention AND CNN HAS REPEATEDLY FAILED TO MENTION THAT THIS PRO BUSH GROUP IS FUNDED BY THE RNC! Yet, the Cindy Sheehan Group is constantly linked with Moveon.org. and M. Moore, two groups that are repeatedly blasted by the so-called LIBERAL press of CNN. You are truly revolting. That you should represent your news organization as bearers of the truth has NEVER been more revolting to me, although I gave you a second chance after the non-election of 2004. You are Pro-War; Pro-Bush and Pro-DEATH! Your failure to adequately disclose, discuss and address the lies of this current neo-con administration that has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocents, and has only profited Halliburton and other big companies in the Military Industrial Complex, makes you guilty of sins of omission and sins of lying and hypocricy. I will NEVER watch you again, and I promise you that many friends and family members will not either.

4. I'll go for "and at worst, is a blatant liar." re Ed Lavendera
Edited on Sat Aug-27-05 06:19 PM by autorank
They are so finished.

CNN hates its viewers.

It shows contempt for them by censoring the material they view.

It mind-fucks them by claiming to be objective.

It pretends to be journalism when it's just propaganda.

It won't communicate with its viewers when they send in queries (other than the auto generated reply).

When you've got an organization that shows contempt for its customers, lies to them, mind fucks them and won't communicate, you can be sure they're not long for prime time.

N.B. Daniel Schorr was the first news director when Ted Turner started CNN. Turner got Schorr because he was a great news guy but also because it was well known that Dan Schorr never took shit from "management." This established the initial tone of CNN and gave Turner instant credibility in the news biz...how low they have sunk (Walter Isaacson indeed!).

41. Well, here's the good news...
CNN has an average of 400-500 thousand viewers a day at key hours. That's the combined population of Dayton and Toledo OH or something thereabouts. Great cities, and Toledo has America's best news paper but...CNN spends a bunch of money all over the world. They spend for "talent" Paula etc. too. 500K viewers doesn't get much ad revenue. So right now, CNN is what's called a "loss leader," they give the whole Time-Warner deal prestige (in Time's view) but not much else. It's the same with Fox. They've got 1.2 million viewers (but the Fox people actually watch much shorter durations than CNN viewers). Even this number doesn't get you much. It's like being the most popular TV station in DC-Baltimore metro...hell, I don't even watch local news there and couldn't tell you who that local would be. The Fox folks are not making any money either. For them it's a propaganda operation. When The Simpson's mocked Fox news, the head of Fox News and O'Liely threatened to sue Fox Entertainment (huge revenue). The Entertainment people just laugh ted at them in public and didn't say a thing to The Simppson's writers. That's how important Fox News, a public dissing by a sister company.

Rejoice, none of the cale operations are making money. MS and C /NBC are much worse.

Nobody cares, they're dead financially, they just don't know when to fall over.

People just don't dig it, that's the bottom line. It's so funny to see these guys acting so important when they're at about the level of the Mary Tyler Moore show (that one about the TV station in Minneapolis).

Question time: who plays Ted Baxter on modern cable news networks?

The freeper tent is much small and had a lot fewer people. Notice that the freeper picture is from the right edge of the tent and you can see the left side and the back.

It's hard to take a bigger picture of something that isn't that big to begin with.

I'm actually watching CNN again tonight, because of the re-run of "Dead Wrong"...saw it twice last weekend, and I was initially so ecstatic that they were covering it, I think I missed clues r.e. Tenet being made the fall guy (and maybe Powell too) But they don't need to know if I really NEVER watch them again. CNN lies to me, I'll lie right back without (much of ) a guilty conscience.

52. Do you think maybe they were trying to 'distract' us?
I know it's paranoid of me, but the hypocrisy is so blatant.

We were all so thrilled a few days ago when they ran Dead Wrong, and we all thought that we were making progress, and maybe cnn had turned against bushco. They re-ran it like 10 times this week.

The contrast really hit me yesterday... I caught a few hours of the bradshow, he was getting reports on the phone about how many people were there, and I caught the "Busses are arriving" and the "Rimjob is still lost" threads, so I knew the #'s. Then I flip on the tv, and here's this guy totally misrepresenting, and not even showing Cindy's camp!
Then they run Dead Wrong again. WTF?

31. This CNN story says Camp Casey had more people -
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/08/27/crawford.rallies/index.html

About 1,000 Bush supporters -- more than the population of Crawford -- poured into the area for their rally. Many of them arrived in a caravan from California bearing the message: "You Don't Speak For Me, Cindy!"

The founder of Move America Forward, Howard Kaloogian, accused Cindy Sheehan, the sponsor of the anti-war protest, of encouraging the very insurgency in Iraq that killed her son.

"The terrorists that are watching Cindy Sheehan's protest believe that this is something that might topple the current administration." Kaloogian said. "And I have a question that I want the media to begin asking Cindy Sheehan: How many more American soldiers are going to die because you are giving hope and encouragement to our enemies?"

Across the road, more than 1,000 people showed up to support Sheehan, whose son Casey died in combat last year in Baghdad's Sadr City. She has been holding a vigil at a site dubbed Camp Casey in honor of her son near the Bush ranch since the president began his vacation there earlier this month. (Watch video of Sheehan's speech)

35. This is the same rhetoric they used last weekend, except it was
couched in terms of hundreds rather than thousands. If the pro-Bush group had 100 people there, they would have said less than 1,000, and if Cindy's group had 5,000 there, they would have reported it as more than 1,000. I've been listening to CNN since Cindy has been there, and I've read all of the threads (almost) on DU, and many elsewhere. CNN exagerates or outright lies. And they ALWAYS mention the numbers of the anti-group first, and then like its an afterthought, mention the anti-war numbers.

39. I don't doubt it
I've kept up with many of the protests against invading Iraq, before and after shock and awe, and would see crap reported by corporate media that totally flew i the face of pics I was seeing here on DU and elsewhere. That is, when corporate media decided to even acknoledge the demonstrations of widespread dissent. Even Cspan tried to ignore it.

I don't doubt for a second that the same corp media is going to lie about events this time around. No doubt.

I had just read this thread about CNN spinning, then read that report that I posted, and it seemed fair - until I read your reply.

I haven't watched cnn since last November, almost a year. I avoid the website as well. I had forgotten just how deceptive they can be.
