What proportion of rethug vs. dem Senators voted for Iraq war? |
|
I so tired of people telling me that the war is not a partisan issue bc not only rethugs voted for it (and it's not as if I imply it's a partisan issue, it just happens that those who chide my pro-peace sentiment are invariably rwers, they can't defend the war so they pull this irrelevent crap). I agree, war isn't a partisan issue, but for some reason the majority of peace activists are dems. So our leaders let us down, what else is new? The thing is, I vote dem bc they tend to let me down less often.
The thing I don't get is why so many non DLC dems voted for invading Iraq when anyone with half a brain knew the reasonn for invading was flimsy, and a transparent lie. Right now in my state people are talking about the Maria Cantwell campaign and I am surprised by how many are defending her vote for the war, and by the incessant idiots that never miss an opportunity to point out something a dem leader has done that goes against my beliefs, like it's my fault that politicians generally suck (just some less than others). "How do ya' like your Senator, huh?" as if a repug in her place would have voted against it? what is their point? they don't even know. they don't care is their mantra, right? *sigh*

or if they don't like that, that Bush "fixed the intelligence" around the policy for everybody.
I remember General Clark saying that some of those super duper top secret briefings on WMDs were pretty convincing and spectacular. As an ex-general he got one from Rumsfeld apparently/
And then you have Colin Powell telling everybody that war would be a last resort, they really needed this for leverage. Despite what DUers will tell you, Colin Powell was respected and believed-- he had a good reputation. . .Unfortunately as we know now, he was out of the loop.
Yes some people saw through it -- good for them.

3. that does help, but of course they are in denial |

about smirk's lies. I tell them I would have voted against it and didn't believe his lies before or after the invasion-just plain common sense to me. and to the many pro peace people that happen to be mainly comprised of dems, more rwers now, but before the war there were significantly more dem than repug citizens against it.
In any case I am sure there were more rethug Senators that voted for invading than Dem Senators, I'd think they'd be less likely to feed into the hype and have more of an attitude of war only when absolutely necessary, so what if Saddam did have WMD's, how many other nations have WMD's that weren't targeted? It's not like there were any good reasons to point to Iraq as being connected to 9/11, or was a greater threat to the US than other nations.
