Katrina, you can destroy my city...
But you cannot destroy its soul!

New Orleans French Quarter parties in face of hurricane
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The bands were blaring on Bourbon Street, the bar tables were packed and the drinks were flowing.

"The only dangerous hurricanes so far are the ones we've been drinking," said Fred Wilson of San Francisco, as he sipped on the famous drink at Pat O'Brien's Bar. "We can't get out, so we might as well have fun."

-snip-

Sorry, I just needed a pick me up. I love AP reports out of New Orleans, they always get the craziest folks who have been all night drinking full of piss and vinegar to say "ahhhh, we'll take it!"

I'm at LSU right now, so I'm in Baton Rouge, my dorm is probably the safest place I can be. My family came up overnight to stay at my grandmother's house here, so they're out of the way too. Brought the dogs as well. We'll all hunker down in Baton Rouge. I'm just worried about all the poor folks who cannot get out of the way, and the property damage.

9. I can tell you how...
because the media has desensensitzed people with their incessant doom and gloom about the hurricanes. Now people don't listen any more, when the danger is real like it is right now. The weather wonks on CNN and Fux and the weather channel have made every storm into the worst one that ever happened...

so when the REAL WORST ONE comes along, they've cried wolf so many times people think they are gonna be just fine.

This storm is a monster, and the evac order that just came down is too damn late anyway, there's no way to evac that city before it hits. There is gonna be major loss of life.

10. The media coverage of hurricaines is irresponsible
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 07:42 AM by shadowknows69
Sticking live reporters out in the thick of things people get the thought in their heads "if CNN has people reporting live outside my house will surely be ok" and they try to ride it out. Be smart NO. No force or building made by man can stand against mother nature when her wrath is at its most intense.

8. As with all disasters, people will come together...
It's what we do best as Americans.

Give us a shitload of lemons and we'll make Calamity Lemonade.

(Sooner or later.)

To y'all NawLeans, be safe and work together, whatever happens.
