1. Fuck! I just found out I have two buddies stuck down there.
I'm told they are on the 9th floor of a hotel taping their windows up. One of my other buddies just talked to them and said they are scared shitless.

What I can't figure out, is why they didn't scram. I guess their flight got canceled and they had no other way out. Jeez. Talk about being trapped.

3. Taping isn't going to do anything.
Tell them to get in the bathroom when the storm hits. Get in the tub if they can.

7. That's what I said. I think the main plan is to duck in to the
marble bathroom when it gets really bad. I haven't spoken directly with them.

I've been doing remodeling on my house for the last 3 days and haven't been watching TV. I logged on here once yesterday and someone was talking about "katrina" and I didn't know WTF they were talking about. Talk about having your head up you ass.

I'm getting really worried when I hear 28ft surge. :scared: :scared: :scared:

4. If you can reach them, tell them to stock up on stuff to ride it out
They'll have no power and may not be able to leave the building for quite awhile.

Best of luck to them.

15. Keep in touch with me. I have friends down there. I'm going to call
if they need a place to meet after the storm I may be able to get them to some locals.

2. that's just how high the sea level rises, it doesn't count the 30-40 foot
waves riding on top

this thing is a monster. everybody pray it hits at low tide and to the east of NO. it will still be devasting but that may help a tiny bit

5. Hopefully this is good news...
...the NHC computer models are starting to swing their predictions such that NO will be on the weak side of the storm wall. I don't know how much that will help, and heck given the geography of the water there it could even end up worse by pushing more water up.

And I heard that large hurricanes like this have been known to change course sporadically. It's all luck from here on in. Cross your fingers, folks.

And hopefully that's not the trend.

9. reading the weather geeks blogs, it's gonna wobble A LOT and the
forcasting in the last 24 hours is (oddly enough) the worst they do. there's just too many variables to deal with

16. I like this one, too....it moves!

This storm is HUGE, and devastating for anyone in its path. I'm hoping that some miracle happens, and that it veers off so that it doesn't hit any large population center.

O8) I'm praying for the folks in NO....how terrifying for so many of the folks who couldn't get out, and wanted to!
