UPDATE..A Cruise ship disembarked passengers in NewOrleans TODAY
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 05:11 PM by SoCalDem
My son just called...all is well. It was an Emily Litella experience...

Maria wigged out when she heard her Mom saying New Orleans..rental cars..flights.. etc..

Parents called.. The SHIP took them to Texas..and they are safe..

I'm having this one locked..

Sorry..

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

.......edited. because the phone call from her parents was misunderstood, and I freaked out to think that a cruise line would do such a thing.. Apparently they did not..

sorry y'all :embarrassed:

1. Unbelievable.
What cruise ship? There is a website where you can track cruise ships.

when he called just now.. He was supposed to come and lay a wood floor for me today, but Maria called him in tears this am, so he went to be with her while she and her sister & brother waited to hear from their parents,,.

4. OMG
They were supposed to be diverted to Galveston.
I wonder who fucked up and WHY the port authority would allow them to dock?

5. Galveston has a port for cruise lines, why did they
not go there instead? A little out of the way, but safer for their passengers...

6. What??
Crazy is right! Makes no sense whatsoever.

Google news - 7 hours ago - this news snip -

> As a result of Hurricane Katrina's current path, the Carnival cruise ship "Conquest" will dock in Galveston instead of heading to New Orleans. Passengers will be allowed to remain on the ship longer than usual to help facilitate their rearranged travel plans to return home. The cruise line will offer buses to the airport, as well as financial compensation for travelers. <

13. This am when they called, they said they were trying to find
their way to Houston..Maybe they found a ride. She has been calling them on their cell phone all daym, but no answer..

I hope they get somewhere safe...and call her before she melts down into a puddle.. She's a worry wart.. When her folks went to Europe last year and left her in charge, she made her brother who was 21 then, call her 3 times a day,m so she would know he was safe ..same for 23 yr old sister..

maria is a "mother-hen".

7. That is horrible!
I saw a report not long ago that said being on a big ship like that is safer than being on land during a hurricane. Too bad the ship didn't just let them stay aboard.

9. One word: Liability
Those cruise ships are large enough to weather 30 foot waves and will likely be heading back out to sea to weather the storm. However, they don't want anyone getting hurt or killed. To be safe, get rid of the passengers. Does this sound about right?

11. It sounds just plain stupid.
Edited on Sun Aug-28-05 04:39 PM by rocknation
Why literally dump them in the lap of the very hurricane they were trying to avoid? If they had time to change their destination to Galveston, they had time to change it to something else. WHY did they change their minds about going to Galeveston? And where, by the way, was the ship coming from?

22. Think lowest common denominator:
If they die on land, it's not your responsibility. If they die on your ship as you were trying to weather the storm, you're gonna pay for the deaths.

12. The waves in the eye are over 50 feet now
They better set sail at full speed if they are going back out to sea.

27. Hold up.. until she hears from them.. I need to make sure I have the
right cruise line/ship.. Her Mom is likely to sue them just on principle.. She's a traveler, and knows what's what..

My best guess is that it was Carnival Sensation...but I'm not sure that's the one..

I'm hoping she gets a call soon, and they are hob-nobbing in Houston:)

It's still a shitty thing to do though
