Remember you can't take pets into shelters |

I was lucky. I was evacuated in Florida for Hurricane Georges and I went to a friends in high country with Einstein. I couldn't imagine leaving our furrbabies BUT what would you do if you had no where to go or no way to get there with your pets. Some people have many furrbabies....including horses. Please prayer for their safety. I was fundraising for the ASPCA after 9-11. After we found the babies, brought them back to health they were adopted all over the country.....Their parents were not coming home. :grouphug:

i understand why shelters won't accept pets, but i think pet owners in places where hurricanes hit should always have a plan in place to accommodate them and their pets, no matter what the evacuation need. hubby and i talked about this today and we'd never leave our homes without our pets.
it's sad that people consider animals secondary thoughts... there will be many, i fear, homeless or killed after this storm. :(

It's a desperate situation for people. I can't imagine making the choice of saving myself and sacrificing my pets. Good for you for thinking of the animals after 9-11. It was on my mind as well once the initial shock wore off. Poor critters, they depend on us.
