An LTTE that just screams for a response

Nancy Bureson describes her vigil for peace as a "moving experience" ("For her, a nightly vigil for peace in Iraq," Letters, Aug. 24). When she looked at the flag and reflected on what it means to her, I wonder if she thought about the sacrifice millions of people have made (military and others) so she can protest in peace.

Bureson claims her country is losing its humanity. I remember the protesters in the '60s and '70s who were saying the same thing. Then these same "peaceniks" promptly destroyed most of our cultural values. They destroyed our educational system, our family values and our decency of thought and speech, and left our country awash in sexual perversity, drugs and violence. Worst of all, they destroyed millions of unborn children for "convenience" and are now attacking the very thing upon which our values are based: religion.

The next time she lights that candle, I hope she reflects on how she is probably encouraging our enemies to destroy more of the soldiers who are protecting her right to light that candle. And when the terrorists attack us again, will she light more candles?

They aren't based on going to church- I go, with my family at Christmas. Theyt aren't even clearly based on religion- they are based on a moral code that transcends any religion.
