Just returned from Crawford
I just got back to Houston from Crawford. There are so many impressions. I cannot share everything now. I expect to post over the next few days to try to put everything in perspective, but I must say I was impressed. The level of organization was remarkable by any standard, but especially so given the cult mentality of the Bush crowd - more on that momentarily. First though, I met so many great folks. The one mistake I made was that I did not wear my DU.com T-shirt (the one with the American flag on it). I wore some of my other liberal T's which received many compliments, but if I had worn my DU shirt I could have met more DUers. I did meet WolverineDG who was my shuttle driver from Camp 2 to the Peace House in Crawford, and I am thankful for that.

Above I mentioned the cult mentality of the Bush crowd. I have often reflected on how red Houston is, but I must say that, red as it is, Houston pales in its redness before Crawford and vicinity. Now that I have been there, I appreciate as I did not before how a cult like the Branch Davidians could prosper in Waco, a short 25 minute drive from Crawford. I do not doubt that the rights of David Koresh and his followers were violated. I am certainly not arguing that. It is just that the people in that area seem to be so entrenched in their beliefs.

Their convictions really have nothing to do with The Constitution or the principles on which America was founded although they will certainly invoke American patriotism in an effort to justify their stance. Their beliefs are only about what they feel and what they believe, and to that extent they and their leader, Bush, are cultists. This, I think, is what we are up against. I have often questioned why W's administration seems so refractile to logic and common sense. That was before I really understood what they are. Cultists do not respond to logic, but of course like all failed ideologies, Bush and his followers must and ultimately will succumb to reality. The only question is, how much blood will be shed before that happens.

In closing, I can only say continue to support the Peace Movement. This insanity must be stopped.

P.S.: I have many Crawford photos, some of which I will post later. Many folks are, however, better at that sort of thing than I, so I will defer to the graphic pros when I think their work is better than mine. ;-)

1. thank you for your post
and your impression of Bush supporters. I can always tell when I come across one. They have a glazed expression and a feel about them that is downright spooky, like they're possessed or something.

3. Thanks for posting your impressions
I hadn't thought in terms of a cult before, but now that you mention it, the Bush crowd - everywhere, not just in Waco or Texas - does seem like a cult - ready to believe and do whatever the cult leaders tell them.

Maybe they'll drink the Kool-aid like the cultists in Jonestown!
