being released by Homeland Security? The same Homeland Security that was responsible for the safety of the citizens of NO? After reading the National Weather Service releases and then listening to the Homeland Security guy joke about buying oil futures...I just shudder.

7. I heard that guy, too. |
|
He was kind of smarmy. But I can't be too harsh on him, he's a first responder emergency worker while I'm home surfing the web.
But we'll see how the Superdome plan fares.

upstairs to hubby to go out and fill up the tanks. Station is right at the corner, so it's an easy run. Might as well fill'er up while we still can.

8. Heard exactly the same thing HWNN heard. That oil futures joke... |
|
just underscores the obscenity of the Bush Administration's Marie Antoinette attitude toward anyone not wealthy enough to insulate themselves from the pending ruination. By the way: thanks to DU for the active link to New Orleans WWL-TV. Here is the link again for anyone who might find it useful: http://www.wwltv.com/perl/common/video/wmPlayer.pl?title=beloint_wwltv&props=livenoad

in weather forecasting. Hell, it's not an exact science afterall.
Just got through watching the locals from about a 50-80 mile swath across Central NC. The closer the station was to the path (when it eventually arrives to our locale) the less rain was predicted. In other words, the further away the affected areas were, the worse they predicted.
i'm reminded of the coverage of a hurricane that did affect our area in the past: Fran. The local weather geek did a piss poor job of predicting our eventual outcome. He was under-prepared, untrained and is now ...? ... well he's not a weatherman any longer.
What i was struck with in our locals ... they didn't want to linger on the storm's immediate impact other than tho say it's going to be bad (and they did not look into the camera when they proclaimed it). Then on to Tuesday, and how we are going to see some rain, blah. see above...
the newscasters did on the other hand warn that gas would be going up, up, UP!
.
i'm going to bed so to wake up early and see what's really happening by checking in here.
gods speed those in the path. dp

12. According to Accuweather, Bastardi said |
|
it could hook up with a system that's sitting off the coast of Hatteras as it comes up north on Wednesday and Thursday. That may be what's causing the higher amounts of rain being forcast farther along the inland path.

|
The head of FEMA used to have a cabinet level position. Now the FEMA head answers to someone in Homeland Security. Geez, the name just freaks me out. :scared:
