WWL TV is reporting 90mph gusts in the French Quarter already.
And the movement of the storm still has a westerly component to it. The turn to the northeast toward the Louisiana/Mississippi line has not taken place yet.

28' storm surges at some points along the shores.

I'm sending good vibes..

12. What they were talking about on CNN is folks won't even be able
To look outside to see what the damage is until tomorrow afternoon or evening, not that the city will be up and running then.

13. that seems somewhat optimistic....
if winds are 90 mph at 1am and the storm isn't expected to hit NO until 11am...we're talking 10 hours of hell before the storm even hits. Do they really think people can safely go outside 5-8 hours after Katrina passes?

5. are you getting that via broadcast or internet...?
My WWL TV internet feed died about an hour or so ago. I'm monitoring WDSU's feed now.

9. The feed is back up,
albeit a bit more pixelated. Over 25000 people are watching online, supposedly. Same link..

7. OMG....just imagine for a moment
you're sitting in your house, holed up. You hear the wind roaring outside. You're scared enough, as it is. Suddenly, you see this water coming in through the door. You go upstairs to stay safe.

You somehow manage to get up on the roof because the water level is rising. You look out, and you see...you're in the middle of the water. Heaven help these people.

11. I've been looking at weatherbug.com
you can go to different locations and get current weather readings.
Kind of a buggy program, but its handy.

I use it to decide when/where to go fishing down that way.

French quarter will start getting hammered in about 6 hours. Its 75 miles upriver from Boothville which is currently having 88 mph gusts
