Libertarians and Greens:

"Bring the Troops Home NOW"

The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Green Party have joined
in calling for support for U.S. troops in Iraq by bringing them home as soon
as possible.

The Green and Libertarian Parties both oppose the current U.S. occupation.
Both believe war should be waged only to defend the United States, and that
the war on Iraq did not meet that condition. Both parties' 2004
presidential candidates proposed withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
Both are concerned that the longer the U.S. occupation remains in Iraq, the
more long-term will be the damage. They agree the best thing for the United
States and Iraq is to bring U.S. troops home as quickly as possible. "The
United States was not threatened by Iraq," said Jill Bussiere, Co-chair of
the Wisconsin Green Party. "Many of us knew there were no weapons of mass
destruction well before the invasion, and the administration knew it too,
having fixed the 'intelligence around the policy' as the Downing Street memo
notes. Now, we find that the invasion and occupation of Iraq have decreased
our national security - just the opposite of what the administration
claims."

The two parties take different strategies in their attempt to end the
occupation, yet they support each other's efforts.

The Wisconsin Green Party is promoting a "Bring the Troops Home NOW!"
referendum on the April ballot in as many cities and villages as possible.
The Libertarian Party of Wisconsin is calling upon Governor Doyle to bring
home the National Guard troops.

"We are building a coalition of patriotic citizens to get a referendum on
the ballot so that Wisconsin voters have a chance to voice their opinion,"
said Jeff Peterson, who is coordinating the Bring the Troops Home
referendum. "Giving voters a voice about the war is an exercise in
democracy."

"We call upon Governor Doyle to bring the troops home," said Arif Khan,
Chair of the Libertarian Party of Wisconsin. "Units of the 32nd Brigade
have been called to active duty, not as a last line of defense to protect
Wisconsin and the nation from foreign invaders, but to be deployed overseas
to occupy a country which the Governor and President now know was not a
threat to the U.S. Wisconsin National Guard units belong in Wisconsin, to
protect our 'Homeland'"

This month Governor Doyle told departing Wisconsin National Guard troops at
Volk Field, "You are the ones going off and making this sacrifice so that
Wisconsin can continue being the wonderful state in which we all live."

"If you believe that Wisconsin Guard troops are needed in Iraq to protect
Wisconsin, I have a bridge over the Black River for sale," offered Ed
Thompson, former Libertarian candidate for governor. "President Bush misused
his powers to justify the federalization of the National Guard and the
dispatch of Wisconsin National Guard units to fight in Iraq," said Thompson.
"Since there was no threat to the United States, the Bush administration had
no constitutional jurisdiction to send troops to Iraq."

"The National Guards were developed to provide security in the case of
domestic unrest and help states with dealing with natural disasters," said
Khan. "In the interests of Wisconsin's 'homeland security', rather than
waving goodbye, Governor Doyle should be demanding that all Guard members be
immediately returned to the state. Support our Guard troops -- bring them
home now."

4. Ah yes but Libertarians and Greens are making Dems look bad
So please... do not say one good word about them. That would make the IWR oh-but-Bush-lied pod people look bad! And Lord knows we can't have that- we must pretend they were deceived and now (lol oh lol) must "stay and clean up the mess" as we siphon every profitable drop out of "our" sand.

Yep... Greens and antiwar Libertarians are baaaaaad people standing in our way of "democratizing" a bunch of anti-imperialist heathens.

Fuck the Vichy pods:

"Bring the Troops Home NOW!!!! Now! RIGHT now!!!!"

5. wow. it seems there are some anti-war political parties in the US,but
the democratic party is not one of them. if one truly believes in social and economic justice, they're gonna have to find another vehicle than the dem party.

6. The irony
I believe that the Democratic Party *is* anti-war, it's just their F'd up "leadership" who fail to represent/recognize their constituents.

We cannot abandon the Dem Party, that is what they want us to do. Remember, the "leadership" has abandoned US.

They can't have the Democratic Party's good name. Fight for it.

7. there's something seriously wrong going on with our Dems
I don't know if it's just the DLC or what, but you can count the number of them actually standing up for what Dems believe in on one hand.

There is something seriously sinister and seriously screwed up going on.

8. Researching it further I don't think many of them are true democrats.....
I found some strange "faux conservatives" controlling the board of elections in Ohio when I went digging. They are all registered as democrat, but I seriously doubt they are really democrat.

One of them is Susan Hughes who was elected to supervise the election during the fraudulent recount, count that went on and she was delegated to Hocking County. Well, she votes conservative all the time.

I think its an infiltration if you want my honest opinion. One by individuals who, are paid for, or put into office. And I think the true democrats in congress are afraid to blow the whistle on them in the democrat leaders council.

16. Maybe they are being blackmailed
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:10 AM by FreedomAngel82
 I was watching a Tom Brokaw special earlier this evening on the Sundance Channel about Deep Throat and I think it was him who talked about how some members of Congress were being blackmailed. But some members of Congress, didn't say what party, were blackmailed to vote the president's way or they would've been politically suicide. I think it was on this special. But they would say "I know about this girlfriend" or "I know about what you've been doing" etc. and they'd vote the president's way because these very very high officials could find things out from the FBI or something like that. Sometimes I wonder myself. I know Conyers, Waters, Kennedy and Kerry have all spoken out. Kennedy at one point was the only person who was vocal. Durbin was on the CNN "Dead Wrong" special and the only democrat I saw on there. It is strange indeed. Why isn't Harry Reid, Charles Schumer, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, Ted Kennedy or any other high profile democrat screaming from the roof tops??? Not even Barbara Boxer is around! Now that I'm really surprised.

17. I also remember hearing of a case
somewhere where a canidate ran for a state seat and ran as a democrat but once they won they became a republican. Is this person in a more conservative area in Ohio? It still disgusts me how a person can claim to be a democrat but not vote party ideals or what they know is wrong.

9. I like the idea of a referendum to bring the Guard home!
I think there are some good ideas in here that we can try to implement in our own states. Indiana does not allow for public referendums, but we could get city councils to pass resolutions asking that the governor recalls the Guard. Why don't we do that? Ending the war is a humanitarian issue, not a partisan issue. Both major parties voted for the war, ignoring the calls peace of millions of people around the world.

10. Too bad that won't work.
That would just send Iraq careening even faster into the dark abyss and would turn the country into a Taliban-like state, creating a whole new generation of Islamic extremists who will bomb innocents.

I mean, look at Afghanistan.

I want our troops out, too - they never should have been sent there - but we have to get out in the fastest manner with the most international help and with the least amount of long-term damage.

11. Staying in Iraq will cause US lives as it did when we stayed in Vietnam
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 06:39 AM by IndianaGreen
Civil war is now a real possibility. Keeping the troops in Iraq to support a theocratic regime is not my idea of defending freedom, and neither should be yours.

Each day we stay in Iraq is another day that will be memorialized with names on a future Iraq War Memorial. Let's stop wasting lives and bring them home now. We have done enough damage already and there is no one in the US that can make this thing work, not even your General Clark.

14. getting the hell outta there will work as well or better as
what's happening now. iraqification ain't gonna work, not in any time frame i'm willing to abide, and no other country is willing to kiss that pig's ass. s what happens if we get the hell outta there ASAP? thepopular resistance loses it's excuse to exist. sure, there's likely to be a period of conflict between tribes and between sunnis;kurds and shiites. but if thst's gonna happen it's gonna happen now or it's gonna happen 20 years from now unless we instll saddam like dictator to rule the country.

18. Exactly
And I betcha they're going to do that. Look at their Constiution now. And Bush didn't even want any of this! If you haven't visit http://www.gregpalast.com and watch his special on Iraq and oil. He shows this and earlier this year he was being sued by oil companies for his segment so I know it's true and I've personally come to trust Greg Palast. Also, go to http://www.democracynow.org and look for the August 25th show and towards the end Amy Goodman interviews a founder of Iraq Vets Against the War and he tells of how when he first went into Iraq his commander told him straight out that this was all for oil.

15. Dems and Repubs
seen like they're 'good cop, bad cop'-ing us folks.
Both major parties sucking heavily on the teat, not wanting to let go.
We absolutely need another party or two dedicated to the laborers and common folk that keep this ship floating.
