CNN: 3:13 EST- 1/4 people simply don't have cars YET no plans to use buses |

Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 02:21 AM by jsamuel
Jeanne Meserve on CNN, local in NO, said that the people in the Superdome are poor and have no cars. The city knew that this would happen and simply had no plan for them to evacuate.

1. No doubt they can't afford bus tickets, either, if that's |
|
what you meant. But if you're wondering whether the city could have used buses to evacuate them, so am I.

4. The CNN reporter said that the decision was made not to use buses |
|
To evacuate the city, but did not explain why. There could be a reasonable reason - - if there aren't enough buses, the Superdome might be a better idea.
The creepiest part of the report was the anchor asking the reporter if she had thought about how this might be the biggest story of her career. (The reporter, to her credit, talked about how terrible the storm could be, rather than her own career.)

5. Wouldn't it be cool if reporters could - you know |
|
investigate, ask questions?

7. you mean you expect reporters to actually do some thinking on their |
|
own? and then actually work to track down facts?
ha! seems to me the only reporter i see doing that is david gregory who appears to enjoy giving bushco a hard time (and i love him for it!)

8. This reporter was actually talking about a lot of real issues |
|
Which is how the fact that 1/4 of NOers don't own a car and that the mayor had decided not to use buses to evacuate them made it on the air. But the anchor took the conversation off into a weird tangent, asking whether she had thought about how this was probably going to be the biggest story of her career. The reporter sounded shocked, and tried to get the interview on track, but she was out of time after that.
