CNN SAYS 1/12 OF SUPERDOME ROOF HAS TORN OFF!!
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 08:05 AM by IanDB1
They can see daylight through the roof!

Oops. That was a typo. 1/12, not 1/2.

My bad.

1. No, they said about 1/12 of the roof
looks like it *might* blow off. They can see a little daylight now and some rain is coming in.

Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 08:06 AM by Oreo
I felt uneasy about the superdome thing since I first heard about it.

Tucker Carlson (ugh) was interviewing the head of the superdome and asked if it could stand up tot he winds. The guy answered briefly... we have no recent tests.

Scary

85. I can't know that
I don't know who's reading these boards, or what their situation is, or what their relationship is to people in the Dome. All I do know is that you take supreme care in emergency situations not to make a bad situation worse. Supreme care. If you are a responsible person, that is. The original poster didn't do that, and was rightly called on it. It sounds to me like you just want to "debate." Have fun. I'm going to work.

It's all about me, and not about the dissemination of hysterical, panicky information. You are a great defender of slipshoddiness, in any case. I hail your sweet, blessed heart on that score, though I wouldn't want to be anywhere near it in an actual emergency.

Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 08:18 AM by mtnester
when they were reporting live last night around 8:00 from the Superdome, they said officials had already registered 30,000 people and there were a couple thousand outside still waiting to get in.

I am totally confused by the underreporting and the amount of people discrepancies inside.

63. Update from WDSU, just now
They're expecting more of the SD roof to come off. 3 x 5 chunk so far. A large lightning rod just fell through. Conditions in the city are worsening and all the pumps have failed.

83. Of course it's minor damage
Compare "some lining over the dome peeled back" to the original post "1/2 Superdome roof gone!!!!" and nyou get a sense of the kind of stupidities that can circulate in such situations, either through error or hysteria.

Caller on the Lynn Cullen show just said he heard reports of a hotel collapsing. Anyone else hear of this or is it just a rumor?
