4. Also, for the record
Mobile is pronounced mo-BEEL, not MO-bill, or MO-beel. Some of these CNN reporters are mangling both.

And it's New Orlins. Not the big easy. Just like San Francisco is The City, not frisco. So I'm wondering, do New Yorkers scoff at 'the big apple' too?

10. It's actually
N'awlins, but only us natives REALLY pronounce it that way; and only to each other.

12. True. I was just trying to steer people away from
New Orleeeeens. gaaa! Only permissible in a song if it needs to rhyme.
Of course N'awlins is in Orleeeens Parish...
Let's not open the can of worms that is street name pronunciation (Terpsichore, Chartres, etc...)

21. I don't know if New York City people resent being called the Big Apple.
I know the rest of us in New York State who don't live in NYC scoff at the idea the only place in New York State is New York City. Thank you for the answer to New Orleans because I was wondering about that too. I knew I would get the right answer on DU that is why I love DU so much.

11. LMAO! So True
Interesting bit of linguistic trivia here--in Italy, a kuh-SEE-no is a brothel; if you want to gamble you go to a CA-si-no.

a lot of reporters (and people not from the area) pronounce it:

"Warchester." LOL.

29. Worcester ain't the hardest for non-Massholes ...
It very well could be Scituate (on the South Shore).

A woman once asked me for directions to Si - TOO - it, and I didn't know what the heck she was talking about.

It's pronounced SITCH - oo - it.

30. I can't blame regular people for getting it wrong.
I think most people would tend to say it the way they think it is pronounced. But I think reporters should educate themselves better.

19. Had to laugh at Aaron Brown last night.
He was talking to a reporter in Baton Rouge and the two of them were desperately trying for a (I suppose) Louisiana pronunciation of the city --- Ba TAWN Rouge.

After a few attempts, they both went back to BAT 'n Rouge.

24. AND in light of where landfall is taking place,
Pass Christian is "pass cris-CHAN." I've heard of outsiders trying to find "Pasker's Chan" on the map!

Then there's the supposedly true story about the tourist in San Antonio wondering if we had a large Muslim population here, thinking De Zavala Road was "Days of Allah."
