Katrina hit mainland at Perlington, MS.
The storm has taken a turn straight North, and the edge of the eye is touching Pearlington, MS, which is on the LA/MS border. If the storm continue straight North, the right side of the eyewall will hit Bay St. Louis/Pass Christian MS area.

Until now the eye has been over marshland and delta that extends outfrom Louisana and below Mississippi.

Winds in N.O. appear to be directly out of the North. That is a bad thing as it pushes Lake Ponchartrain onto N.O. I don't have any information as to how bad that will be.

New Orleans will get some storm surge, but not the 25 feet that we feared.

1. Bay St. Louis is getting the storm surge now
So say the weathercasters on WDSU.com live stream.

BTW, I think it's extremely cool that the local news stations are combining forces to report on the hurricane. There are people in the WDSU studio from two different stations. Apparently one station went offline when it's roof was ripped off.

6. I estimate the surge in Bay St. Louis in about 30 -45 minutes.
I don't have any data to estimate size of the surge. Storm is weakening so I will guess at a surge there of 10 to 15 feet.

Biloxi will be get about the force of a weak CAT 2. Not too bad. Casinos will be open on Wednesday, most likely, definately by the weekend.

5. WDSU
Trying to confirm water is over the levees in Jefferson Parish. 7ft of water in east jefferson hospital. Water coming through levees of industrial area between Lake Ponchatrain and the Mississippi.

Note again that they're still trying to confirm with a second source.
