San Diego Peace Vigil Tonite (outside Bush's hotel!); rally tomorrow
Update on Bush Events Monday & Tuesday

(please kick this thread--we want a HUGE crowd!)

Candlelight Vigil:
President Bush, Our loved ones are dying in an unjust war. WHY?

Monday Evening, August 29, 2005 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The President will be staying overnight at the Hotel Del Coronado on Monday night, prior to giving a speech commemorating VJ Day at Naval Station North Island Tuesday morning. A vigil is planned for Monday night and a demonstration early Tuesday morning.

Gold Star Father, Fernando Suarez del Solar, along with military families, veterans and other patriotic Americans from the community will hold a candlelight vigil near President Bush's hotel Monday night. This will memorialize and honor the service men and women who have already died in the Iraq war, and call for the President to end the war and bring the troops home safely.

WHERE: On Coronado Island along Ocean Blvd. Near Flora Ave and Rh Dana Place. (Directions: Take Coronado Bridge to Orange Ave. Left on Orange Ave. to Rh Dana Place. Right on Rh Dana Place - becomes Ocean Blvd.. Vigil will be on Ocean Blvd. along the beach.) No parking will be permitted along Ocean Blvd. on Monday and Tuesday. Carpool if you can and park as far away from the Hotel Del as you can.

People who drive can park their cars to the North (right) of Third and South ( left ) of Fourth. In between Third and Fourth (the entrance and exit roads to the Naval Base and town from the bridge) there is permit parking. DO NOT PARK BETWEEN THIRD AND FOURTH ON THE LETTER STREETS. You can be sure the cops will be looking for easy tickets. Parking is okay on the letter streets as long as it is not between 3rd and 4th!

7. It was amazing -- cops estimate over 2,000 anti-war protesters,
which means there were probably more like 2,500.

Only 50 to 100 pro-war folks turned out, carrying identical signs provided by a right-wing radio station.

If Bush is generating this sort of opposition in supposedly conservative San Diego, he's toast.
