Did anybody else notice this revolting news tidbit
that I read in this morning's paper?

It said that the reason all those poor people were standing in line outside the Superdome, getting soaked in the rain yesterday was before they were allowed in.

But, hey, the National Guard is compassionate if nothing else: After these poor folks stood outside getting soaked for an hour, they munificantly dediced they could come inside and get searched on the floor of the stadium before being allowed into the seats.

There was one woman quoted in the paper who was 76 years old and homeless and got searched for ten minutes.

What a country my America has become.

6. They were concerned about two things
Alcohol and firearms. Perhaps if they had had more time, they could have gotten some airport metal detectors. With no smoking permitted in the Dome, tempers are bound to get short in the best circumstances; and with the roof blowing off the place, I can imagine that nerves are frayed in there.

The problem was that alot of people brought EVERYTHING with them--the more stuff they brought, the more stuff the NG had to search. I understand that this info was put out before the lines started forming.

This was a city-state decision, FWIW, not a federal government decision. It was taken by the mayor of NO and the governor of LA.

8. Well, though I personaly would find the searches revolting just as
I do at the airports these days, it was reported that some had knives on them, take into account, they had no idea how much time these people were going to end up being housed in there, thousands of people, you can't really claim all of them to be calm and non violent individuals considering our everyday headlines..

sides as the heat intensifies which it will obviously after the storm passes, tempers do indeed begin to rise and arguments and fights break out simply because the conditions begin to try many people, there are plenty of children in that arena, I for one would feel much safer for my own kids knowing that if tempers did indeed erupt, no weapons would be forthcoming..

10. Has anyone in Florida heard of people being searched before
going into a shelter? Just because it's bigger doesn't mean they should automatically be searched. Yes, thing can get bad. It sounds a little strange.
