Sorry if this is a dupe.

Anti-Gay Church Protests at GI Funerals

By BETH RUCKER
The Associated Press
Sunday, August 28, 2005; 12:06 AM

SMYRNA, Tenn. -- Members of a church say God is punishing American soldiers for defending a country that harbors gays, and they brought their anti-gay message to the funerals Saturday of two Tennessee soldiers killed in Iraq.

-snip-

The Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist in Kansas, contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps' children, grandchildren and in-laws.

-snip-

The funerals were for Staff Sgt. Asbury Fred Hawn II, 35, in Smyrna and Spc. Gary Reese Jr., 22, in Ashland City. Both were members of the Tennessee National Guard.

-snip-

So many counterdemonstrators were gathered in Ashland City that police, sheriff's deputies and state troopers were brought in to control traffic and protect the protesters.

4. The good thing is...
by attaching his message of hate to deaths on 9-11 and in the Iraq War, he's completely marginalized his sick campaign. He's so OTT, he's jumped the couch.

13. And the bad thing is the lack of outrage...
by the so called moral majority. Their deafening silence appears to be a roaring endorsement. An upside down world we live in.

I've always wondered why this kind of wacky fundamentalism and/or racism are not considered mental illnesses. That's the main reason I don't believe in psychiatry; it lets the wrong people go.

The example that I like to use is this:

A guy who washes his hands a few more times than normal is sent directly to the psycho wards, and that's right after they shove paxil or whatever down his throat. Then they make up a name or two for what he "has", like OCD or SAD.

Meanwhile, some shaven-headed, tatooed motherfucker (or, hell, Phelps himself) is running around talking about how the blacks and gays and jews should be killed because god says it was a good idea. You know what they say about him, right? He's practicing his right to free speech. Ugh.

5. Phelps is sick and hate-filled. Sadly, sociopaths tend to
have some measure of charims so he is able to infect others with his illness as well.

12. Why do they even give this Bigotted ANTI-Xian air time or print space?
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 02:04 PM by WePurrsevere
Don't they have a paint drying event, pet show or pie eating contest to cover that would be more a whole lot more interesting? I suppose it's sort of like rubber necking at the scene of an accident eh?

Hmm... "The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps' children, grandchildren and in-laws." So if we get a wild and weird group of people to act in a bizarre yet perhaps positive (versus Phelps negative and hatefilled) way the corp media will give us all sorts of coverage too right? :eyes: Uh huh... yeah sure, I'll just hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

(edited due to pre-mature postulation)
This dude must not read or watch the news (not to mention read the Bible he supposedly preaches). The troops are dying in Iraq because of BUSHco and all he and Cheney's fellow OIL buddies. They would NOT be there if it weren't for BushCo's vendetta and GREED and they wouldn't be DYING if it weren't for BUSHco vendetta and GREED. :grr:

Really who forgot to dump the chlorine in? :freak: What the heck planet is this regect from the gene pool from anyway? Must be Bizarro since he seems to get everything, including the message of Jesus in the Bible, bass-akwards.

14. Someone mentions this...
...just about everyday. Am I the only one that sees the irony? He pickets gay people's funerals and weddings for years, and now that he has turned on straight folks he is suddenly a nuisance and gets constant media coverage.

TIP: Just ignore him. He'll go away. That's why he is picketing soldier's funerals now, because gays by and large have just decided to ignore him and he can no longer get the attention he craves. That's what trolls want, attention and justification for their existence.

You only have two options when it comes to him. Kill him or ignore him. He isn't worth going to prison over, so ignoring him is the best option.
