Baptist sermons all day! I can't take it anymore. One was all about 'America and God's Blessings' and now he's on the 'Rapture'! I'm going out for a cigarette because I'm about to explode! A couple of times, I've even made a dissenting comment out loud. Losing it!

The right is really losing it out loud now and broadcasting religious sermons, or double talk everywhere. I'm surprised americans can even tolerate this.

I guess it depends on the attitude of the boss and your company, but most people aren't allowed to play anything loud enough that it would disturb the other employees.

of 'rules'. He's a pretty nice guy, who knows that I think religion is dangerous to critical thinking capability and that there is no difference between Muslim fundies and 'Christian' ones. I asked him last week what he thought about Robertson calling for assassination.

15. Me, I'd say it was too distracting to work...and offensive
Because Christians are anti-gay, according to the President, whereas you (as an example, don't really know how you feel) believe that to be hateful against humanity. So, you could say it's simply too disturbing. It really is.

Christians are into bashing heads, anymore, as popular opinion would have us believe. A reasonable adult doesn't want any part of that.

21. Please..please
don't paint all Christians with the same brush. I am a Christian, but I don't blast sermons, bash heads and my bishop is Gay. These fundies are a distinct MINORITY of the faith.

45. Please accept my apologies
I'm sorry if that was offensive, I was discussing those fundies and how they make some of us feel, generally, toward that faith, now, with BushCo. I didn't mean to paint all Christians that way, but rather that our neocons want to paint all Christians that way.

They assimilated you.

That's why I said "Because Christians are anti-gay, according to the President..." and "Christians are into bashing heads, anymore, as popular opinion would have us believe..."

I made it plain I, myself, was NOT painting all Christians that way.

But Christianity being the religion of choice of this corrupt admin, it doesn't matter at all if it's most Christians not; the admin has assumed it, gay bashing and all. And THAT is what we face; Christianity as majority as "moral".

This post had a lot more to do with the issues this individual is facing at work, over religious music he doesn't want to listen to, and it doesn't really matter which religion it is. I said " So, you could say it's simply too disturbing. It really is.", for this person to have to listen to Christian music at work. To the non-believer, it IS scary stuff. To hear Christian music at work would bother me too, because for the first time in my life, I feel persecuted, by other than children and kooks, and it's been given a legitimacy it never had before. To face someone rudely making noise about it at work, after already being told it was a problem, is typical of the "majority" attitude we face.

I'm sorry this admin has used your faith. But, I have to say, had not so many Christians followed them in the first place, it couldn't have happened. Christian fundamentalists made this happen. The more reasonable of us realize it wasn't what your faith was about, but unfortunately, I think it will forever be painted this way, because with Iraq and depleted uranium, I think the BushCo legacy will last many, many years. No one is ever going to forget what this "Christian" president did.

I've been saying how sorry I am for my Christian friends for a few years now, and I don't mean it sarcastically at all. I am sorry. I can't see how Christianity can fare well, after this admin.

46. Thank you
and I agree with pretty much everything you say. They hijacked my faith. My mom tells me that as early as 30 years ago she and my dad got involved in the Jesus Freak movement and were really into trying to live like the early Christians. Kind of radical stuff, communes, back to the earth, etc. At that time they lived in NJ. They moved to the deep south and thought they found others with similar strong beliefs but when they attended services they found out that down here, strong faith was more of a political movement than anything else. My mom says you can tell a "bad" Christian by how bad his toupe' is!! And she has a point.

So they back slid to a much less fundamental version of Christianity and have been happy there and I grew up in that faith as well. People like Pat Robertson scare the bejeezus out of me. And frankly, the fact that the church has been hijacked and victimized by this level of evil is, to me (and I might get some flames outta this statement) evidence that maybe the Devil DOES exist. Because he is doing a great job to split the Christian face right down the middle. And come to think of it, he's splitting the Muslims and the Jews in the exact same manner. I do think there are fewer of these creepy Christian types than we think. It is just that they stick out so damned much because let's face it they are just ... well, creepy.

Go to this link for the type of faith I practice.

http://www.thewitness.org/

Any church that tells you they have all the answers isn't asking all the questions.

47. I'm sorry for what BushCo has done to Christians everywhere
Thanks for such a thoughtful post, and I just wanted to say, again, I'm sorry. It's not as if Christians aren't taking a lot of hits already. I didn't want to jump on the bandwagon. Even if I was picked on a lot as a kid by Christians; that's how I learned how wrong it is.

thanks for sharing that link :)

34. Play something like "We Don't Need No Fascist Groove Thang!"
Edited on Mon Aug-29-05 03:02 PM by calipendence
If you liked 80's music here's one for you to play from Heaven 17. I'm sure that would one or the other get him bummed.

Original lyrics:

(Everybody move to prove the groove)
Have you heard it on the news
About this fascist groove thang
Evil men with racist views
Spreading all across the land
Don't just sit there on your ass
Unlock that funky chaindance
Brothers, sisters shoot your best
We don't need this fascist groove thang
Chorus:
Brothers, sisters, we don't need this fascist groove thang
History will repeat itself
Crisis point we're near the hour
Counterforce will do no good
Hot you ass I feel your power
Hitler proves that funky stuff
Is not for you and me girl
Europe's an unhappy land
They've had their fascist groove thang
Chorus
Democrats are out of power
Across that great wide ocean
Reagan's president elect
Fascist god in motion
Generals tell him what to do
Stop your good time dancing
Train their guns on me and you
Fascist thang advancing
Chorus
Sisters, brothers lend a hand
Increase our population
Grab that groove thang by the throat
And throw it in the ocean
You're real tonight you move my soul
Let's cruise out of the dance war
Come out your house and dance your dance
Shake that fascist groove thang
(Shake it!)

Newer "updated" lyrics would be:

(Everybody move to prove the groove)
Have you heard it on the news
About this fascist groove thang
Evil men with racist views
Spreading all across the land
Don't just sit there on your ass
Unlock that funky chaindance
Brothers, sisters shoot your best
We don't need this fascist groove thang
Chorus:
Brothers, sisters, we don't need this fascist groove thang
History will repeat itself
Crisis point we're near the hour
Counterforce will do no good
Hot you ass I feel your power
Hitler proves that funky stuff
Is not for you and me girl
Europe's an unhappy land
They've had their fascist groove thang
Chorus
Democrats are out of power
Across that great wide ocean
Bush's president select
Fascist god in motion
Neocons tell him what to do
Stop your good time dancing
Train their guns on me and you
Fascist thang advancing
Chorus
Sisters, brothers lend a hand
Increase our population
Grab that groove thang by the throat
And throw it in the ocean

Let's cruise out of the dance war
