6. When Norfolk got hit with a cat. 1 storm...
parts of the city were without power for 3 weeks. I was lucky only being without it for 8 days. The amount of devastation to the power line infrastructure during hurricanes is unimaginable. You basically have to rebuild the entire grid.

7. Hurricane Alicia hit Houston in 1983.
We took a direct hit from a smallish storm.

Many people were without power for weeks--or a month. (My power was out for 2 hours.)

3. well, I guess we found out what would happen........
if a force 5 storm ever hits New Orleans. Man, this country is in such sad shape, it is really hard to find a reason to smile somedays. Those folks are going to need all the help they can get. Lets all hope and pray for their recovery. A check to the Red Cross would be a start.

4. Looting (on Basin or Canal Street) in NO.
Mostly young boys taking beer and food from a local grocery. I don't think that the National Guard Troops have deployed to the streets yet.

Unprecedented storm surge in MS coastal counties: bigger than Camille according to Gov. Barbour. People trapped in houses.

5. If it was a republican district
I would love to ask them "why should the gov't help you. As a rugged individual who doesn't believe in handouts why should the gov't provide you with anything?
