Crawford Pix, Sat., and a rant about that night
I wanted to rant about this past Saturday Night. My friend from Ft. Hood and I were able to go to Crawford last Sat. Her son is a soldier, and has done a tour in Iraq already.

We took the shuttle from Mcgregor with a mom, grandma, and daughter from Temple, not far from me.

Well, afterwards, we decide to eat at Sonny's in Mcgregor. It is a decent sized Cafe. It was 9:20 when we walked through the doors. We had decided on a burger and coke, and a quick rest there before the hour long drive home.

As we walked in, we asked specifically, to the OWNER, if they were still open. Emphatically, he said YES. So we seated ourselves.

As we sat, we noticed a table of Bushie supporters. We were polite, and noticed they were the last to leave. As they were leaving, the same shuttle family came in. Mom, Grandma and daughter all sat down. The conversation grew a little more animated after we invited them to sit with us. It was pretty obvious by then where we had come from and whose side we were on.

The waitress, who was just a doll, sat down talking with us about Cindy, etc, and had no real side to take either way. She was quite diplomatic and thoughtful, taking all of our orders. The shuttle family had ordered some really good stuff off of the menu. And I had to gently remind our waitress not to forget to put in all of our orders or it might be too late.

At about nine forty five, the owner walks up to our table. Almost half an hour after we arrived. He said "Im really sorry, but the grills are all closed now, and we COULD start them back up, but it would take a good fifteen minutes to get them hot enough.

I was really not in the mood, so I asked my friend what she'd like to do, and we decided to leave. The shuttle-family said, crank those grills up! We're Hungry! :) I winked at the grandma, and out the door we left.

We left without paying, because our lovely restaurant owner said not to worry about the drinks, and the other folks stayed, because they knew damned good and well what was up.

Thanks for letting me rant. I told my friend that this is probably the beginning of this kind of thing, and wondered for a minute what it must have been like to be black in the fifties down here. Being a middle aged white woman, I have no idea, but the incident sure made me wonder.

And now for a few quick pix.

Downtown Crawford, infested I tell ya!

1. Those bums can pull that stuff sometimes, but they love money as much
--if not more--than the next person. If they start that crap up in earnest, they'll see boycotts, and long memories when the nation as a whole comes to its' senses.

Lovely photos, thank you for putting them up!

For the world to see such a huge display of time and effort put into protesting the coward and chief. And what's sweeter is seeing the ragtag rednecks from the red states calling themselves protesting Cindy screaming themselves blue in the face that they can't get any attention and can't gain any political traction. They're coming in on horses and dressing up like soldiers and colonial minutemen -they look ridiculous, rather they look like the insane kooks they are. They're a freak show of right-wing perversion and are fortunately being ignored by everyone. Even Fox news can't invent a reason to bring attention to them. This is what happends when you side with right-wing extremists, you become a group of reactionaries and if all you ever do is react then you can't justify the same attention as people who are proactive. Thanks for the pics and I hope Cindy et al will take this show all the way to Washington when Shrubya goes running back to DC.

8. Hate to say it but the battle lines have been drawn. MOST of us can
accept differences of opinion. We know they will have to accept the truth - Bush LIED -- eventually. It's very unfortunate that some people like the restaurant owner are taking that kind of stand.

I know of other DUers who were pointedly asked to leave a business because they didn't support the war. We will see more of this as we speak out louder.

As always, thanks for the report and pics!
