Venezuela Tourism
I was thinking about what I could do to show support for Venezuela and Hugo Chavez. I have never considered vacationing there, but I looked it up on the internet and it seems like they have some awesome places to visit. Have any of you been? Although I won't be in a position to go on a trip like that for at least a year, others might want to think about it. Here is one of the Venezuela travel sites I found:

1. We were planning on going to S. America...
next year instead of our usual summer trip to Europe, but we'd only planned on visiting Brazil and Argentina. I think Venezuela might get added to itinerary. I want to show off my Hugo Chavez Rocks! T-shirt.

4. If you decide to go, PM me and I'll be happy ot give you a list...
of things that would probably be of interest. I have family in Maracay, not too far out of Caracas, and visited them during the summer of 1969. Don't worry, all the things I saw are still there and thriving.

5. it's a wonderful place
we went to cumana, caracas, and magarita island. cumana had the rain forest and world's tallest water fall. people there were so laid back. caracas had really fine steak resturants with old fashioned formal service. really bloody steaks too if that's what you like. a medium ther would be rare here. Be careful of underdressing though while in resturants, clubs, etc.
We saw many people outside a bank building once, and turned out it was giving out money to the people under the instruction of Chavez. notice that this was just before the re-election, and so it was pretty much bribing voters...
and the gasoline there were cheaper than bottled water (you can't drink tap water at most places).
I can just babbe on...
Hope you enjoy it there!

7. If Chavez is for redistribution of wealth
...why would he stop it as an election nears?

Or is your attitude that all welfare is bribery?

6. Other than
Margarita and the Aves, its considered a malarial zone -- but don't let that stop you too much (unless immune compromised).

Margarita is gorgeous, and if your a Scuba diver, the Aves have perhaps the best diving in the world (no exaggeration). Victoria falls inland is the highest waterfall in either the western hemisphere or the world -- but the trip through the rainforest is truly magnificent.

Margarita is also one of the better places to shop in any area, since everything is completely duty free. If your a rum drinker make sure to bring back a case or two of Classic -- which is 30-50 in the states, and 3-4/bttl in Margarita.
