Several states warn against gouging. |
|
I found these states' attorney-generals warning businesses in their states against gouging: AlabamaTexashttp://localhost/APWIREFEED/d8c9fptg0.xml">Louisiana IllinoisMississippiMichiganWarnings against gouging of any materials needed for recovery from Katrina including gas. Several articles already include reports of gouging prices on gas and hotel rooms. :grr:

1. That happened out here during the 1994 earthquake... |
|
I live in Los Angeles. Not long ago, I was googling for some plumbing materials.
A big place near my house popped up, as expected. But right under that were news stories about the store owner being nailed for price-gouging after the Northridge quake in 1994.
BTW, we can expect the usual lies from R-W radio about this disaster, I guess.
After our quake, Rush was honking about how "government got out of the way" and let private contractors do all the repairs with no oversight.
As usual, he got it exactly bass-ackwards. The Feds had a LOT of oversight, especially on the freeway repair contracts. And any contractor who missed a deadline got popped with huge DAILY fines for non-compliance.
