1. Hey! Another Washington parish person!
I haven't heard squat from my family in Franklinton.

Some St. Tammany stuff here.

3. Our daughter is in Thomas Community
We couldn't get out of Crawford in time to get home to get our seven year old. Our secretary took her to her family's farm near Stateline. We can't get through. We're stuck in Waco and going crazy.

Is anyone in touch with anyone?

4. I am waiting to hear from my aunt in Franklinton.
She's on the city council there and is doubtless working on disaster relief. I also have family near Amite. Nobody's phone is working. Supposedly 800 homes have lost power. I heard that on wdsu. You can watch the best live streaming video on wdsu.com. Also the best forum for local news is here: http://www.wwltv.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2467

Check your PM.

5. I hear Slidell took a helluva hit. They have no phones or power on the
North Shore, and the freeways are all blocked by police to keep people OUT. Much flooding from storm surge, but maybe not huge numbers of buildings destroyed??

wwltv.com has forums, mostly queries being posted with little actual info coming in from anywhere yet, it's just too soon.

My college BF's parents lived in Slidell, not sure if they are still there..........hope not. :scared:

PostPosted: Mon Aug 29, 2005 10:08 pm Post subject: Husband got into St. Tammany/Mandeville this afternoon Reply with quote
I'm in Houston with my children, however, my husband decided to return to Mandeville this evening, against my advice, of course. He was able to get down Hwy 59 to 1088 at which point the road was blocked by MANY trees. He happened upon a crew clearing the road and joined in to help. He said there was about 8 of them, and it took 2.5 hours to clear 59 from 1088 to Florida. No power anywhere. Most places south of Florida/Hwy 22 appeared to have water from what he could tell. The back of Woodridge Blvd. is defin. flooded. Also, many trees and power poles down in that neighborhood also. He described it as a big mess. He should know a mess when he sees one. He spent many months last year adjusting property claims in Florida after their Hurricanes. He says this looks worse to him in some ways. He has no cell signal as long as he is in St. Tammany. He has computer and cell in Baton Rouge only. Looks like a very long clean up process and a long wait to have electricity restored due to the tremendous amount of downed trees, power lines, and power poles. It got dark on him before he could look around much further and he returned to Baton Rouge. He will go back in the morning, and I'll try to post an update when he is able to relay any new information."

7. Also: re highways (from wwltv forum)
"I-10 bridge 'severely damaged'

Monday
10:12 p.m.

Sections of the Interstate 10 twin bridges linking St. Tammany and Orleans parishes over Lake Pontchartrain have been “severely damaged’’ in both directions, some probably knocked out, Louisiana's highway boss said...

Bradberry said he will send crews to fly over the site today to assess damages...

Cowan said communications with St, Tammany Parish has been spotty and little is known of the number of persons rescued from that area..."
