7. I understand the prisons were NOT evacuated. Try posting a query
on the Orleans Parish forum at wwltv.com. It's mostly queries now with little in the way of answers, but it might be worth a try.

10. From what I can tell, the neighborhood is flooded pretty much across the
board with between 5-7 feet of water. Hopefully, there was space to move the prisoners on the first floor up.

It's bad enough worrying about a loved one locked up under normal conditions. I can't imagine how people are dealing with this and don't even want to think about the chaos that must have erupted inside.

A friend of mine just got out of there about two weeks ago after serving a month for an outstanding drunk & disorderly warrant -- imagine, drunk & disorderly in NOLA! -- I'm so glad he got out when he did.
