Los Angeles Swift Water Rescue is on their way to the Gulf Coast |
|
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:41 AM by nothingshocksmeanymo
They are loading cargo planes at March AirForce base with heavy equipment, rafts and other water rescue modalities and will be in the area by tomorrow.
IF anyone has ever seen rescuers in fires and floods from So Cal, these are California's finest rescue workers.
edited to fix airplane lingo ;)

2. Um, there are three bases right there... |
|
All were teaming with people from FEMA, etc., for the simulations last week... so where did everyone go? They cannot make an extra trip for poor black people, the elderly and kids?

7. I don't know about the military. These are all LA County personnel |
|
FEMA called them to come out. They've been called all over the country in past disasters.

How are they getting to the Gulf Coast? Your aircraft carrier comment is confusing.

rescuers are coming in from across the country. Around here the the Fairfax County Virginia urban search and rescue team is heading out in 5 hours. They were in the pentagon on 9/11, the tsunami in SE asia, and have seen nearly every disaster possible. Good luck to all of them.

Police there were trying to use their personal boats, many of which they couldn't get there and then some got stuck.
I am still confused that we were hearing how all these helpers and rescuers were lined up to come in and help but it was just local police and the Coast Guard trying to do rescues (and civilians)
Glad, so glad, there are heroes on the way.

17. Apparently they're having a very tough time getting in |
|
to the affected areas. I heard someone...I think on CNN...talking about how roads were partly under water, so they can't drive in, and partly dry, so they couldn't take boats. And people in the NO area who had boats couldn't get to them.
