1. I've had CNN on this morning ...
can only pay 1/2 attention (as I get kids off to school) but, I have heard NOTHING about looters on CNN ... lots of attention to the inability to rescue some victims

2. Surely, Barbour can't be as dumb as he looks and sounds.
I saw him on TeeVee yesterday, and he looked and sounded positively clueless.

I wondered how he ever survived childhood... crossing streets, etc.

What's his story?

Who's his daddy?

8. Twitty interviewed him--praised him saying How passionate he was.
I almost lost it.

10. Great post. Haley Barbour was caught getting funny money from Hong Kong
and funneling it into the Republican Party when he was Chairman of the RNC.

Here's a quick grab from google, but I'm sure it's truly not the best, by any means. It simply describes part of the money grab:
The GOP's overseas money

This month's hearings also brought into the spotlight how Republicans secured $2.1 million in Hong Kong funds to support a Republican think tank, which the IRS later ruled too political to be tax-exempt.

At issue was the National Policy Forum, a GOP think tank chaired by Haley Barbour, who also was chair of the Republican National Committee. A former president of the forum told senators he resigned from the forum because he felt the separation between the RNC and the forum, set up as a non-profit 501-C(4) organization, had become a "fiction."

The closeness of the two groups made it troubling that a $2.1 million loan guarantee from a Hong Kong businessman, Ambrous Young, had been secured in October 1994 to help the forum repay a $1.6 million debt to the RNC, just in time for the congressional elections when the GOP took control of the House and Senate.

Barbour's defiant testimony that he learned just this year the exact source of the funds was undermined considerably by three Republicans who helped broker the loan. They testified they told Barbour in the fall of 1994 that the $2.1 million loan guarantee was coming from Hong Kong funds.

13. He also
turned up in a "me and the boys" photo on the Council of Conservative Citizens website. The pic was placed over an article titled "Defense of Racism." Didn't seem to hurt his election prospects... or Trent Lott's... or Ashcroft's. *sigh*

15. Oh, YEAH! I had forgotten about that.
It tells you so much about the Republican Party. Yeah, they've got so much to be proud of. No wonder they're so pompous. :eyes:

4. looting stories = psyop to reduce sympathetic response to victims
This is one hell of a tragic farce if they're just now mobilizing the National Guard... they should have been out in force before the disaster.

9. Let's bring them home from Iraq. They're needed here more than there.

17. Some are in Iraq. Some were sent into NOL before the storm, guess LA
has a better governor. They were the ones getting the registration and searches done at the Superdome from what I read. They also got rations to the Superdome so people would eat.

Would have been a help if ALL of LA's Gurad & equipment were available to the governor. Read that some of the equipment sent to Iraq where 'high water vechicles'. Someone from an area that sees more rain than the 12" per year I get will have to explain what those things are. Soundls like it would have been handy to have them in country.

7. Why doesn't he just ask the food stores to give away the ruined food?
Haley is a typical Rethug Rambo. More worried about property than human life. And of course, keep the poor from being fed. I would hope the NG would turn a blind eye to people taking food.

16. Following Bush's lead, Barbour whips into action - ZZZZZZZZ
late, short, and pathetically ineffective leadership in crisis. A Republican hallmark
