last nite I couldn't sleep thinking of the desperation of the people in the path of Karina.
earlier in the day I saw the Mayor of one of the towns look straight into the camera and say 'there are dead bodies'. This was the first mention of the dead that I had heard.
then later Jeanne Meserve said out loud that she had seen dead bodies floating in the water.
these were the only 2 people I heard, all day long and into the night, to speak of the dead.
I first noticed Jeanne during the DC Sniper episode. day after day, hr. after hr., there she sat at the command center giving us the latest news. she didn't spin or omit. or give her own opinions. just the news mam. and I thought 'that woman has the patience of a cat'. all those self important men surrounding her playing out the Sniper game, and she kept her composure and did her job of reporting well.
yesterday, covered in rain gear, she started reporting at the Super Dome. and late in the day she made her way to a vast community of totally flooded houses and could only watch and report the feeble attempt to save people.
her voice broke as she described hearing people call for help when there was no help to come.
when I heard the despair in her voice I wanted to go and take her by the hand and lead her to my place. remove her rain gear, sit her down, wash her face and hands, light some incense to take the smell of despair from her nose, give her a hot cup of sugared tea to drink while I prepared a nice meal to give her the energy to don that rain gear again and go out reporting.
Jeanne Meserve deserves a medal and a pay raise for excellent reporting under adverse conditions.
thank you Jeanne Meserve.

She is an incredibly brave woman who does do excellent reporting under the worse conditions.
Thank you Jeanne Meserve.

3. She worked long and hard throughout ... |
|
... eventually she became overwhelmed by the horror of what she was reporting. she is really wonderful and proof that all members of the MSM are not bad.

4. Isn't she the humorist? |
|
The one who does the sardonic, semi-stories that run at the end of the news programs?

6. She's no spring chicken, either. She is a remarkable lady. |
|
"Reporters" half her age don't have the stamina and savvy that she has.

9. She really brought it home last night |

If people didn't think that things were bad, oh gee only a Cat 4, then after listening to her last night there was no doubt.

12. Not only her, but her whole crew also |
|
Heard an interview with one of her cameramen last night. He was the one who joined a rescue mission on a boat. Jeanne Meserve tearfully described his, as well as all of the rescuers efforts as heroic. Kudos to all of this crew.

13. I sent CNN an email telling them how much better it is to have a |

reporter showing compassion and total concern for what she was witnessing. I asked them to give Ms. Meserve more reporting assignments and they may win me back as a viewer. I remember watching a news report years ago about elephants who were in dire need of water and the reporter was following a tiny baby elephant (tiny for an elephant) and they followed it to the point that it was dying - you just wanted to yell at the TV "GIVE IT SOME GOD DAMN WATER". They reported at the end that they had given it some water. Ms. Meserve would have given it water the first day of filming.
