The Weather Channel just showed 2 Dolphins that are in a Hotel Pool...
...as a result of the Hurricane. Not sure what city yet, it was only a pre-view.

They (2) look like they are swimming around happily, but I guess someone needs to call Sea World now.

Plus, Jim Cantori showed a small Water Tower (850 Gallon?) that fell over near the V.A. Retirement Home he is staying at currently. Says he can't leave, because the Rising water ruined all the Car and trucks they had used.

1. An aquarium moved dolphins inland before the hurricane struck

Turned a hotel swimming pool into a temporary saltwater home. Those are probably the ones they're showing on TV

2. A few days ago, someone was saying that one of the zoos was moving
their dolphins to a hotel pool. I'm guessing these are the dolphins?

3. They were put there on purpose
(I resisted the pun, yay me) by the officials at the aquarium because their tank was not safe.

5. There were some captive dolphins placed in a pool
for safe keeping prior to the hurricane - I wonder if these are different ones? Jim Cantore is so dramatic - I love him!

6. They treated the pool with saltwater
Moved them from the aquarium. One reporter said that during the height of the storm he went out there, and the dolphins were swimming and playing like nothing was happening.

8. well... yeah...
In the wild, hurricanes really are a surface phenomenon. They only really disturb the top 10-20 feet of ocean water.

For dolphins, it can't be that big of a deal. They, lucky things, don't have mortgages on houses that are now under water.

12. Anything could've been hurled into the pool by wind, plus they breathe air
Fortunately, they are okay. Don't they have to come to the surface and breathe?

That area had a storm surge of many feet, probably over the top of the pool, but they managed to stay in the pool.

16. There will be many who just walk away from those sunken houses
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 11:26 AM by SoCalDem
with all the interest only loans and refis some people might owe more now than the house would be worth, even rebuilt..

Lots of people will be starting over..literally

Banks are gonna eat it bigtime

7. They were moved there intentionally.
They were evacuated before Katrina hit. They're from the Gulf Port Oceanarium.

9. I'm glad they are okay.
I saw the story that was done about them being moved to the pool.

I've been looking for a story about what happened to them--if they made it through okay. Glad they did.

11. There a two hotel pools with dolphins plus one with CA sea lions.
They made the pools salt water and trucked them up in tanker trucks of some sort. Their keepers and the hotel guests are playing with them and feeding them. The tanks they were in were right near the ocean and not safe. Nice happy news.

I'm afraid to find out what happened to the animals in the Audubon PArk Zoo and Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans.
No news yet.

It was a 5000 Gallon Water Tower, the kind that look like a Golf Ball sitting on a Golf Tee.:scared:
