Man in BILOXI: "I'm Lost"
http://www.cnn.com/2005/WEATHER/08/30/katrina/index.html

In Biloxi, a 25-foot storm surge crashed in from the Gulf of Mexico on Monday and inundated structures there. Up to 30 people are believed to have been killed when one apartment complex on the beach collapsed in the storm. (See video of the hydro-demolition in Gulfport -- 1:46)

One man in Biloxi told CNN affiliate WKRG-TV he believed his wife was killed after she was ripped from his grasp when their home split in half.

"I held her hand as tight as I could," the unidentified man said. "She told me, 'You can't hold me.' She told me to take care of the kids and the grandkids ... we ain't got nowhere to go. I'm lost. That's all I had."

...

I have nothing I can say. I can only hope and pray for all affected.

lunch group (although I USED to consider them moderates!) today couldn't understand why people would stay when facing such a storm. When I explained that many had nowhere to go, that especially in those tiny little towns, that they had no resources, that they were often the poorest of the poor, or the elderly, that they somehow felt that they couldn't leave, their response, was = oh well!

6. I saw that this morning and bawled my eyes out.
The female reporter started crying while she was talking to him, too. My heart breaks for what these people are going through.

8. Same here.
I wanted so much to reach out and hug him and the kids. That was tough stuff ... and ya gotta know it's one of thousands and thousands of such tragedies. Overwhelming.
