Genius Needed: Can someone explain HAARP to me?
I am trying to understand some of this information about HAARP, but I don't think my brain is able to absorb this. Anyone willing to tell me about this as though I were a 5 year old?

http://www-star.stanford.edu/~vlf/HAARP/

On one this seems good, as it would disable incoming weapons. On the other hand, the "electronics" aspect of it, namely, that of disabling electronics of low flying planes and such, is a bit frightening. I may be reading this wrong, but an explanation would be great. Thanks:)

1. From my understanding
Heating the ionosphere allows for longer range ,un-interrupted radio communications. What that does TO the ionosphere is anybodys guess. I freaks me out! I've also heard "mind control" experiments,,, sigh.

2. Opps, sorry.
I thought you wrote "Guinness needed: can someone explain HARP to me." Irish beer, I could help explain. Everything makes more sense when you mix Guinness and Harp.

5. Here is the best I can do:
It is a high frequency microwave transmitter. It can heat the ionosphere creating, what is best described as a "bubble" in it. This "bubble" is used like a lens. They can then use the lens, to direct frequencies to other parts of the globe. What this allows is for global communications without the need of space satellites.

The basic idea is that you can use the ionosphere to creat your line of sight, instead of a satellite.

There are many conspiracy theories that speak of "global death-ray gun", mind control, and a host of other totally unsubstantiated garbage.

Many people also claim that this is on off-shoot of some of the work of Nikola Tesla, as it is very similar to the things he was researching.

That is not a techinal explaination. The science behind it is very complex, and I don't really understand all the aspects that make this work. This is just the best I have come to understand what the project is working towards.

6. HAARP is perfectly safe!
Currently, the Pentagon tells us that DU munitions are perfectly harmless.

They're not.

The HAARP antenna array is located in Alaska, a good long ways from any major American city. That's a hint, isn't it?

1. Introduction

DoD agencies already have on-going efforts in the broad area of active ionospheric experiments, including ionospheric enhancements. These include both space- and ground-based approaches. The space-based efforts include chemical releases (e.g., the Air Force's Brazilian Ionospheric Modification Experiment, BIME; the Navy's RED AIR program; and multi-agency participation in the Combined Release and Radiation Effects Satellite, CRRES). In addition other, planned, programs will employ particle beams and accelerators aboard rockets (e.g., EXCEDE and CHARGE IV), and shuttle- or satellite-borne RF transmitters (e.g., WISP and ACTIVE). Ground-based techniques employ the use of high power, radio frequency (RF), transmitters (so-called "heaters") to provide the energy in the ionosphere that causes it to be altered, or enhanced. The use of such heaters has a number of advantages over space-based approaches.

The above paragraph tells us that 'experiments' are already in full swing, including 'chemical releases'.

Some people have been interpreting that as the answer to the 'chemtrail' phenomenon which until the past year or so has been the province of CT claptrap. Now it's starting to look like the chemtrail crowd might be onto something.

As with any project that the DOD says, "Don't worry, it's perfectly safe..."

Worry.

Think, 'Duck and Cover'.

10. No offense, but "chemtrails" are still conspiricy theory claptrap.
As for the safety of HAARP, of course you wouldn't want to be sitting on top of it. Any transmitter that powerful would be incredibly dangerous if there were people just wandering around it. Whether it's safe from a distance is an entirely different question.

14. None taken.
I've got pretty thick skin.

The fact is, there is a ton of photographic evidence that suggests that there is stuff being sprayed into the atmosphere, purpose unknown, except presumably, to the DOD.

Somewhere down the pipe, somebody said, "Hey, maybe we should just do this legally..."

So we have this bill, introduced this year;

S. 517
Weather Modification Research and Technology Transfer Authorization Act of 2005 (Introduced in Senate)

To establish the Weather Modification Operations and Research Board, and for other purposes.

-------------------------------------

Here, they riot in tact!

"...and for other purposes."

Like, uh, duh, uh, HAARP?

Just go ahead and start the research first, then ask for broad legislation that doesn't really get into the minutae. But it covers some butts. Greases some skids. Eases some budgetary constraints.

Spruce up the atmosphere so HAARP can be used at low levels.

Who'd a thunk it?

7. ANGELS DON'T PLAY THIS HAARP
Advances in Tesla Technology

by Jeanne Manning and Dr. Nick Begich

The U.S. Government has a new ground-based "Star Wars" weapon which is being tested in the remote bush country of Alaska. This new system manipulates the environment in a way which can:
Disrupt human mental processes.

Jam all global communications systems.
Change weather patterns over large areas.
Interfere with wildlife migration patterns.
Negatively affect your health.
Unnaturally impact the Earth's upper atmosphere.

The U.S. military calls its zapper HAARP (High-frequency Active Auroral Research Program). But this skybuster is not about the Northern Lights. The device will turn on lights never intended to be artifically manipulated...More

http://www.2012.com.au/HAARP.html

There is a good time line at that link, that will tell about this. Do a google search on 'HAARP Tesla'...

8. Angels Don't Play This HAARP Advances in Tesla Technology

Angels Don't Play This HAARP
Advances in Tesla Technology
by Dr. Nick Begich and Jeane Manning
Angels Don't Play This HAARP : Advances in Tesla Technology by Dr. Nick Begich and Jeane Manning is a book gaining wide publicity throughout the United States having been featured on hundreds of radio programs, news reports and television programs. This book was named one of the most important books of 1996 by Project Censored : The News that Didn't Make the News. The book is the subject of talk radio programs six to twelve times a month on both national and regional programs. The book is in its third english printing since being released in September, 1995. Translations were released in Japan and Germany in 1996.

The U.S. Military's first target is the electrojet: a river of electricity that flows thousands of miles through the sky and down into the polar icecap. The electrojet will become a vibrating artificial antenna for sending electromagnetic radiation raining down on the earth. The U.S. military can then "X-ray" the earth and talk to submarines. But there's much more they can do with HAARP. This book reveals surprises from secret meetings.

9. simply put:
The atmosphere has various layers of ionized (electrically charged) air. These layers can reflect short-wave radio signals, enabling long-range communication. This is routinely used by HAM and CB radio, long range ship-to-ship and ship-to-shore communication, and by the military.

Different layers reflect different radio frequencies, and as i understand it the lowest layer can serve as a "wave-guide" for VLF (very low frequency) radio waves. A wave guide does just that: "guide the radio wave", in this case along the curvature of the earth.

The ionized layers are constantly changing, somewhat like clouds in the sky. It turns out the properties of the lowest ionized layer can be affected by using high power directional short-wave radio waves to locally charge the layer. This raises the temperature of the layer a little bit and causes VLF radio waves to scatter. As i understand it they can locally 'break' the wave guide in the lowest ionized layer of the atmosphere.
VLF (and ELF - extremely low frequency) radio is almost exclusively used by the military.

11. This is the best (and easiest to read without a PhD) article I found
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:50 PM by leveymg
It's basically a huge, reverse radio telescope array that's design to burn long distances through the ionosphere. The primary military application appears to be an electromagnetic pulse type generator for knocking out communications, computers, satellites, missiles and other things with electronic components within a focused target area at a long distance.

This is just my guess, but it would also make long-distance laser weapons feasible by eliminating much of the ionization loss to use of lasers within the atmosphere or aimed upward/downward from space.

The havoc potential this thing might have for skin cancer due to holes burned in the ozone layer is almost beyond imagination.

What are these DARPA/US Space Command maniacs thinking?

13. This is a good webpage with several photos and links...
Basic Information on HAARP

The road to the HAARP facility is located at Milepost 11.3 on the Tok highway. This thirty acre tundra (swampy) property was owned by the DOD. Since we live in the Copper Valley Area, in HAARP's backyard so to speak, we have been very interested in what they are doing with this quasi military/research/educational program of ionospheric research and what effects it might have on our local community.

The primary management and administration of this phased antenna array transmitter for the HAARP ionospheric research facility is by the Air Force (Phillips Laboratory) and the Navy (Office of Naval Research and Naval Research Laboratory). Advanced Power Technologies, Inc. (APTI), a subsidiary of E-Systems, Inc., which is owned by Raytheon Corporation, designed and built HAARP. Here is a link to Professor Anthony Ferraro's Web Page, who was one of the designers of HAARP. The other educational organizations listed as being involved with this program are: University of Alaska, University of Massachusetts, UCLA, MIT, Stanford University, Clemson University, University of Tulsa, University of Maryland, Cornell University, SRI International, and Geospace, Inc. Usually there are representatives from some of these educational institutions at every open house.

My best friend and I have been doing research on HAARP since they started building the prototype in 1994. She and I went to HAARP's first Open House in August of 1995 and she was the first person to get photos of Haarp's Antenna Array up on the internet. You will find that her web site is listed as HAARP Connection at the top of our list of links below. According to the staff at HAARP, they are implementing this technology at their Puerto Rico Research Facility, near the Arecibo Observatory. There are phased antenna array transmitters in Norway and Russia. HIPAS in Alaska near Fairbanks is a ionospheric research facility too. More...

16. Yeah, I feel smarter too, but
Why would this be good again? Cancer, ozone depletion, possible storms as a result, possible planes going down... how does this outweigh hitting something very far away at some point? Would it not make sense to simply destroy the target with a drone of some sort, instead of frying us and the planet to death?

Also, there seems to be a drilling component to this with regard to finding oil.

I take that back, I is not learning.

17. Nuclear weapons were a step forward, too.
They also came with some health warnings on the package.

By the way, there was some similar talk about drilling for oil with the "peaceful atom" program. They recycle their cover stories - very green of them, don't you think?

18. It's not good
Which is more to the point of your original question.

There's a lot of information out there about this stuff and it's all over the place. It's hard to tell what's real.

But I hope it suffices to say that I think that whenever the government keeps a tight lid on such a huge project, there's a reason, and it has to be bad. :(
