MSM covering casinos more than NOLA
If it weren't for DU, I'd have not a clue what is happening today in New Orleans.

MSNBC is covering Alabama and Mississippi almost exclusively, with hardly a word about what's happening in NOLA. I've heard dozens of updates about casino destruction in Mississippi, and not a second about the conditions in the Superdome or the hospitals being evacuated or the rising flood waters.

Complete negligence.

1. The second question Lauer asked Barbour this morning
The casinos generate 1/2 a billion dollars in tax revenue every day, are they going to be okay?

-something like that

2. I saw that.
I thought that I might've been hallucinating the question, but my partner confirmed that my eyes & ears were not deceiving me.

7. And though it pains me GREATLY to say this....
...Barbour, to his credit, responded that he was more concerned about "life and limb" at this point.

3. What I saw was they cannot get a chopper in the air and police won't let
them in. They are going to the places where they are allowed to go. This is such a big emergency and their are so many helicopter rescues that they simply have been either FORBIDDEN from flying over NO or their choppers have been volunteered/confiscated by the rescue effort. I had the same thought as you did, but then I heard M.O'B. say that they CANNOT get a chopper in the air - you KNOW they would love to if they could. The premise of your thread is incorrect - sorry to tell you.

5. Thank YOU!
Who ever can get the "breaking news" the most, get the $$$. They would be THERE if they could. They can not. Since they have birds to fly, they must be being prevented from doing so.

It's possible that there could be legal issues to deal with. If they see people on a roof, that their familys can SEE and expect to be help.. only latter to learned they died.. Can you imagine the out cry? The questions, etc.

As shoddy as the government is doing this, they are trying as best they can. But to CYA, they don't want pictures.... Just enough to show how much help is needed.

The only thing the media can talk about, is the area and the people they can get to and interview.

4. They're reporting what they can get to.
We have the info here because we're getting it from the local stations that had reporters in place. The MSM only managed to get a handful of reporters into NOLA before the roads closed, and communication with them is spotty to nonexistant.

6. Gulfport - my people are there not far from the casinos - please let's
hear more about the realtime conditions in Gulfport - the Ground Zero video here on DU helps give you a handle on how bad it is in gulfport!

here's the thread with the video:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4504449

A few days ago a weather channel reporter (Cantore?) commented that the MS economy may take an economic death blow from Katrina because of damage to the casino industry and to the agricultural economy in the non-coastal areas of the state.
