Man jumps to death inside Superdome -- CNN
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 12:32 PM by pimpbot
Just watching CNN and a reporter inside said a man jumped from a 2nd story concourse.. She also said people are getting restless and wanting to find out about their families. They were asking to use her cell phone but she said it wasn't working. She was calling CNN on a land line the police had operational. People in the Dome were asking Bush to "send help now" No link yet..

6. In any disaster event the phone systems will be useless.
My wife and I got our Amateur Radio licenses shortly after the Nisqually earthquake, when the cell and landlines were totally swamped and we could't contact each other for several hours. Now we have taken training for providing emergency communications assistance to help others get emergency and "health and welfare" messages out when the normal phone systems are out.

It takes a little bit of preparation, but at least we'll be ready for the next event here and will be able to assist others by providing communications support between various service and public agencies.
