Wait a minute now. Hazmat wasn't hiding after 9/11. A hell of a lot of them were dead. Hazmat crews are just firefighter/medics with special training to deal with hazardous materials. In most cities they cover regular FF/PM duties when hazmat isn't an issue. But even gasoline in the street after an accident is hazmat.
I don't care whether you think 9/11 was MIHOP or LIHOP or just a sucker punch, there WERE heroes that day. They went up the stairs when the rest of the building were going down. That isn't hiding. I understand the disillusion on here and I agree with a lot of it, but geez, sometimes it just gets kind of hard to read. Isn't anyone in the world worthy of SOME kind of admiration?
I know hundreds of fire fighters and hazmat guys and not one of them has ever hidden from anything in their lives.
In this situation, they are just overwhelmed. The whole damned city is under water. They're human. They can't be everywhere at once.

9. Oh man, I am so glad you clarified that. |

Hell yeah, the EPA has a whole hell of a lot to answer for. There are going to be a lot of firefighters dying young after that event.

3. In most of the US, Hazmat = Fire Department |
|
Only a handful of the largest cities have dedicated hazardous materials teams. The rest of the US typically just trains their FD to handle hazardous materials incidents.

from The World Trade Center. Environmental protection is controlled by politics. This means protect corporations from liability first, control fear with ignorance and draw up studies to "track" the victims, then lose the studies. Wish I wasn't just being sarcastic.
