What are the TV evangelists doing for LA. / MS victims?
With their media empires they theoretically could organize a rescue and relief mission that could rival what the U.S. government can do and certainly more than the Mississippi state budget can provide - but does anyone know if they are doing anything at all? Pat Robertson has no problem sending fleets of planes for African relief, provided of course those planes can come back groaning under the weight of diamonds and gold his corrupt pals can provide.

Are they doing anything at all - or are they afraid that a relief effort into New Orleans would help too many homosexuals or, worse, registered Democrats?

3. Probably crossing them off their donor lists, since the mail cannot get
through and those poor folk will not have any cash to spare. That way, they save the postage and the cost of making those cheesy plastic crosses "blessed by the REV Fillintheblank hisself!!" that they send out for donations over twenty five bucks!

4. First, they have to condemn the "homos" and "sinful" types...
then, they'll organize relief for fellow "Christians" in the devastated areas.

The rest can go to hell where they belong. It's GOD's will. :sarcasm:

8. They're probably working up sermons...
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 01:19 PM by Spider Jerusalem
that go into detail about how the storm was "God's righteous wrath" being visited upon New Orleans "for the licentiousness and lechery of Mardi Gras", and upon Mississippi for legalising gambling. Psychotic Protestant fundamentalists don't help people; they preach at them that their suffering is retribution for their sins.

That leaves the fundamentalist evangelicals out!

21. Robertson supports the military dictators who allow his operations
He has nothing but praise for military dictators who subjugate their own people - IF those dicators also turn a blind eye to his gold and diamond interests. The people of these countries are forced to live in appalling poverty, then dig up mineral resources that could be used to raise their standard of living - if only the countries weren't run by dicators willing to sell those resources to the likes of Robertson.

What he knows about Christian charity is non-existent. Even if Robertson or Falwell were to ask their listeners to support flood victims, those donations would be siphoned to make payoffs to their dictator pals.

15. Big Easy is a town of sin
they will say. This is God's punishment for the sin, homos, welfare minorities, and above all Catholics that live in the big easy. No money for them. But what about the Mississippi & Alabama? No money for them either...just heard that some Catholic families moved to those states. Besides this isn't an election year & they vote lock step with us anyhow. :sarcasm:

18. The right's response: "Let 'em crash!"
Just like the fake news reporters on Airplane!, but infinitely worse because it's real. Here is the REAL America, as they call themselves, in action:

The right bloviators on the radio this morning are all saying its the residents' "fault" because they live near the water (without mentioning the industries located on the water).

The oil companies who siphon off state revenue by paying a fraction of the royalties are keeping their fleets of helicopters in reserve for vacationing oil executives, instead of donating them for rescue efforts.

Pat Robertson and Falwell are bleating on about how this was "God's will" and divine retribution against the sinful, without lifting a finger or putting the resources of their "Christian" ministries to work as Jesus would want them to - Who would Jesus drown? New Orleans, apparently.

27. Snarf! I was thinking more about Kathleen Blanco, actually,
since I lived in N.O. for several years in the early '90s.

But yeah, it looks like Miss. is just as hard-hit, so now we get to see what Haley Barbour can do. One hopes he could use his clout with the repuke establishment to pull down some much-needed aid. On the other hand, it could end up very much like what you describe with Haley and the Exxon exec...

26. Saying it's the victims fault because they live near water ...
... reminds me of the late Sam Kinnison's rant about poverty and starvation in Africa in which he screams "MOVE TO WHERE THE FOOD IS!"

24. There's no oversight where that money goes or is spent ...
It goes straight to the pockets of the "administrators" or to buy more airplanes for Robertson and his pals to loot the third world of its riches.

With urgent needs continuing to emerge, Operation Blessing's disaster relief team is readying a large-scale response throughout the affected areas. Six of Operation Blessing’s tractor trailer trucks have been dispatched to pick up food, cleaning kits and relief supplies for delivery to those impacted by the storm.

Not to say they haven't, but it's easier for them to laugh at old black people clinging to the wreck of their shanties.
