They must not... what other answer can there be. They just don't give a damn about us -- any of us.

Bad timing, but welcome to DU.

9. Remember what his Father did during Gilbert and Andrew
he dithered and dallied while thousands starved and finally had to resort to rioting on St. Croix; then when Andrew hit - IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CAMPAIGN - and he refused to send any troops into Miami or to do anything for days, or until Clinton came in to take action.

You have to remember that the residents of both the Virgin Islands and Miami are registered Democrats. Obviously, he was waiting for the surplus population of liberals to decrease before sending in troops to protect Republican property.

The "Guard" guards us, Americans here on our soil from natural disasters, etc.

You hit it right on the nail.

No one is signing-up because they either know the truth which is a pack of lies "or" their Chicken-hawk Repuks, good on spreading hatred, and that's about it.

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 05:11 PM by Hobarticus
Many law enforcement and rescue services had big ol' holes in them even before this, as their people get called up. How many of the Gulf Coast states' first responders are in Iraq, right now? It's double jeopardy.

The russkies went apeshit when Putin refused to interrupt his golf game when he learned that the Kursk was stranded at the bottom of the sea...he had to really struggle to regain the points he lost over that issue.

23. They could have come in and started with the levees and other
preparation efforts BEFORE the storm hit - and now there they are stuck in Iraq. Thousands of them have families in the davastated areas and must be frantic.

Bush stole OUR National Guard for his immoral war, using them as unarmored cannon fodder, and he also slashed funding for hurricane protection and relief efforts:

24. Hell yes
I've been saying this for months. Besides which, NATIONAL Guard is to defend this nation-not Iraq. Why the "other side" isn't America first is beyond me-oh yeah because of terror and the great threat that poses. They mentioned it here in the West when they realized they wouldn't have the forces necessary to fight wildfires-which thankfully there have been almost none this season. I'll say it again-I want the armed forces to DEFEND me-not oil wells..not Iraqi's not Saudia Arabia not whomever...but it's not about America, clearly is it? Cindy Sheehan has made this point and I love her for it.
