Pay off your bills and buy a bloody cannon if you must.
Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 02:00 PM by HypnoToad
The coming months, I fear, will not be good.

We've already seen how people will kill just to get gas that's $2.59 per gallon.

Gas is now $2.79 per gallon and is about to skyrocket thanks to the gulf crisis and doubly thanks to the last 4 presidents who've done sod all about the energy problem.

Crime WILL go up.

More people will be in serious financial trouble.

Suicides will go up.

The wealthy of those areas will also use FEMA and other means to make taxpayers pay the reconstruction bill and rebuild on the same filthy patch of land, even though their mansions were worth $3 million and likely one mile away are a lot of lower- and lower-middle class citizens who won't get a damn dime.

I am not being a pessimist or a catastrophist. I am a realist. And what I've said is only regarding the immediate, domestic, future.

Expect ANWR to be drilled.

Expect a bigger demand for more ME oil. Particularly as we currently import 60% of what we need and 75% of our own rigs have been put out of action for some time.

Better pay off your debt. I don't know what happens to debtors in a time of a crash, but I doubt it will be good.

We didn't learn from the 1970s.

I think we might be too late for now.

And the worst case scenario is, the dead will be better off. :-(

1. Debtors in a time of crash aren't that bad off.
Interest rates plummet and inflation makes the debts much less.

2. I've closed out an old 401k to pay off all bills...
I'm hunkering in - switching current investments to low risk. Bf and I both have talked recently about the upcoming crime waves that will inevitably come with the economic collapse we are facing.

I have NEVER been so pessimistic in my 50 years, now I accept that life as we know it may be ending - this is going to be bad.

5. I'm royally fucked
First off all...this is a rant, and I'm sorry, I know it's supremely selfish given all that's going on...
But if things get bad, I am the first to go.

I have 50 bucks to last me until September 15th...rent is paid off for the next 3 months, so I have a place to stay, but I have 1 can of soup, a can of chili, a loaf of moldy bread, and some mac n' cheese packets to last me til then.
If shit goes down, I am fucked like a mofo.

Things are going to get bad. There are some truly bad vibes out there right now.
