Why don't they just work in tandem with the effort now, allowing them to use their resources at will?
Something about them taking over gives me the creeps.

7. Funny how..
Katrina wasn't considered a WMD. Actually, it wasn't since W didn't find it.

6. Their help is needed
Local authorities are overwhelmed. This is a massive problem requiring massive response and logistics. The Army is probably best positioned to take over. I don't really like it but I think martial law is the least of the problems that NO residents face.

9. I'd rather have my $$$ spent helping Americans in need than
killing innocent Iraqis.

Just my two cents.

10. Seeing as much of the LA National Guard is in Iraq doing the Army's job-
it only makes sense for the army to fill in for them over here...

11. Yes their help is needed
But the Pentagon is "taking over" the command.
Why can't they just let the present command use the troops and work in a support role?
There was a collossal failure for not acting on information they already had about this (just like 911).
This administration is famous for classifying information and saying it is in the interests of National Security.
If they do that, it won't come to light regarding the failures and we may never know actual death tolls.
The media has already received their talking points to talk down about this storm. To paint the people affected as having means to leave, to spread the looting propaganda and to continually pump the public that gas prices are going up because of Katrina.
