It seems like our economy is so fragile one bad storm can take it out. And seeing those pictures of people losing everything is so heartbreaking.

I suspect that very few of us, including our fabulous leaders, have really given a whole lot of thought to what the long term repercussions of this storm might be for our nation as a whole in terms of energy and displaced people and lost business, etc...
I think we might be in for a bumpy ride this winter.

of our tax dollars in Iraq, costing into the trillions! The cutting into emergency services such as the Army Corps of Engineers by 70-million! Whats going to happen when the Katrina survivors file their bankruptcies, and what are those insurance companies going to pull as far as govt. relief? And here is one for you all, how about the mosquito infestion, along with West Nile Virus!

|
:silly: You know all those displaced, can pick up a hammer and get to work rebuilding asap. War and natural disasters and terrorist attacks are good for the economy. Yep! Bring em on!

For those of us far way...
All we can do is donate blood and money.
Feeling otherwise helpless.

Gulfport and Biloxi was blown away and New Orleans is under water and looking at disease and no water and power for weeks. Florida is to announce that they will be out of gas shortly and gas may have to be rationed. I'd say you have just cause to be very freaked....

and i'm missing my mountains in wv so badly, especially with fall coming up. i'm here in paradise physically but my heart is hurting for my country on so many levels. family and friends back in the states. i'm actually starting to feel something's going to happen and we won't be able to come back at all. my country - where i grew up and camped and hitchiked and had all my great life changes in so many parts of it is quickly becoming a thing of the past. you all be careful back there, and stay safe.

Think about the people down there that have lost everything...THEY are scared.
And they will need us to be strong in the coming months.
Crying and fear will not help them -- and they need help badly.

Because you sound just like him. Yes, I'm a hysterical housewife fearing armaggedon. So what! I understand your point-I think it's exactly those people that get to me-why them and not me? Life is so bloody unfair-those with almost nothing to lose have even less. It brings up every damn thing about the difference between the haves and the have nots in this country. And we WANT a government that can take care of us in these times, that can tell us the truth and that looks out for all of our best interests. We don't feel that anymore.
We feel so damn alone. And helpless.

18. This situation is going to hell... |
|
We are in an unjust war. We are up against an insurmountable debt. We have a horror unfolding along the gulf coast. We have gas prices that are out of control. We have martial law declared in America. We have politicians trying to change the laws for their own agenda.
And our govt. leaders are eating cake.
I think when dead bodies are floating through the streets of new orleans, things are f*cked.

19. I believe it was Lily Tomlin who said, |
|
"Things are going to get a lot worse before they get worse."
And a wise DUer said, "We've hit the bottom. Now we're digging."
We have an administration that cares only for their bank accounts & the profits of the mega-corps & multi-nationals that put them in office. The suffering of millions of people do not matter to these callous, indifferent "humans." Swamp Rat is spot on in portraying them as lizard people. They are cold blooded, sub-human. I'm sorry to say that the 'opposing' party is not much better.
We currently have a government "of, by & for the corporations." Perhaps a tragedy of this scope will finally wake up the sheeple to the fact that their interests are not being represented in our government, that our government has been subverted by the rich & if through complacency & ignorance we continue to let this happen, our democracy will become a feudal state.

Between conservative and liberal. We all do it all the time.
Maybe the divide should be those that care about working people vs. those that care about corporate profits.
CLASS WARFARE!!
If the democratic party ever took up the economic populist mantle they would win carry a lot of former republican voters. I don't see why they are not already running with this. Now's a good time for this.
