15. Any word on just how they are going to do this?
They have no airports, no rail transportation and no roads. They can't possibly fly everyone out by helicopter, so how are they going to accomplish this and where will they send them?

Any of this info in the Mayor's address?

30. Only think I can think of is temp airport by Seabees
If they can build an airstrip on high ground and get the people helicoptered there and take them out on C-130s maybe. But my goodness, that would be days away at the minimum.

41. Airboats can also be used.
I have heard here in West Palm Beach that people with airboats will be going there soon. THe airboats can get around quite easily in the floodwaters. Hopefully this rumor which people at work were talking about today is true.

To everyone in Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana please know that everyone here is West Palm Beach has you in our thoughts. We care deeply.

28. Boats.
Easier to get boats to people than helicopters. It's still going to take a massive coordination effort and very, very long time. I'm hoping in the end that everyone gets out, but the longer they wait to implement the city evacuation, I fear final evac. video that looks like the fall of South Vietnam.

I'm so worried about everyone down there!

36. Is there any high ground to boat them to?
I heard on the radio that "uptown" NO is not underwater. Can small boats get to that area? If so, that seems the only way.

I think as you do - this will take a long time and I don't know if these people of roofs, etc., have that much time.

20. So why didn't they do this before the hurricane?
The excuses were:

It takes too much time to mobilize the units.

It would be too dangerous to risk the lives of rescuers.

So now it seems units are being mobilized with no delay. Also, how much more dangerous is it to the rescuers now than it would have been before the hurricane?

43. Yes, now they can sit under water. As the freeway had lanes...
open to have all busses leave with people without means in them.

Just the car people. Lane upon lane open with the contra-flows, but no busses.

Like I said. Sorry if this upsets the Louisiana people, these are the facts. Poor, old, disabled, no car, no credit cards, no means of transportation...get thee to the Dome, and by the way, bring your own food.

And Big Ed with his BIG mouth. He should be dropped off in a smowstorm with a dime, and told he has a choice to hike to shack 100 feet away, or figure out how to get a car, motel room, gas, after they have been taken from him.

26. Well, there was always a chance that things wouldn't be this bad
When you've dodged a lot of hurricanes, you begin to believe in your own luck. You also have a hard time justifying mass evacuations and their costs. Imagine if the entire city had been evacuated and the hurricane turned into a 2 overnight.
