NPR's Opinion Modification Piece On Perceptions of The Economy
I was just casually listening to NPR as I worked out in the yard and heard a bit on how the public now has a better perception of the state of the economy. It was explained to me that the number of people who thought all things economic are just rosy as hell had gone up by a good margin and that gave sound reason to hope that consumer spending would follow. Unspoken was the supposition that spending will, of course, fix everything. However toward the end they slipped up and came damned close to letting a fact slip out. The Commentator said that 'almost 30% of those surveyed now thought the economy was either good or getting better.' (I use single quotes when I cite from memory) Think about that - 20-something percent say its good so it must be good.

1. Been down so long, seems like up to me.
30% seems like a low number in any event, but then it's relative. What were these numbers in the fifth year of the Clinton administration? How do you find that out? They are bound to go down after Katrina.

...a right wing editorial takeover, set in motion in a matter of months six years ago.

17. NPR still has some good programming
The political side of reporting has been corrupted by the neocons.

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 03:44 PM by corkhead
Does that mean that 70% think the economy is getting worse?

6. I Presume The Question Had Only One Answer
Maybe the Question was stated like this:

Do you Believe the Economy is good or getting better?

A. Yes

If you couldn't answer yes I guess you just couldn't answer.

4. Yup, good 'ol Now Pointedly Republican glosses over the 70+ %.
This morning they were reporting on the hurricane damage and instead of having the Mississippi Gov. or the Louisiana Gov. they went to Jeb Bush for answers.

Does that kind of journalism just simply wash off or does it take an SOS pad and a lot of blood and grunting?

7. Yeah, I'll be watching/listening/skimming CBS or NPR or CNN, and
it all seems like BS to me. Is there a word for seeing an evil political agenda every other place you look?

9. I quit NPR when the Bushies installed
their hall monitors to make sure the administration's talking points would get airplay and all dissenting opinion would be muffled.
NPR is now a part of the fascist Bush media conglomerate.
They're no longer relevant to me.
And, there are now alternatives.
The right has achieved another of their goals -- the banishment of public radio as a source of in-depth news.
