These "see what the Freepers are saying" posts kinda bother me.
I don't know, its sort of like knowing that a bunch of my friends on DU are secretly reading kiddy porn on the side. Do we really need to know what they are saying? I mean, isn't it pretty darn predictable what they're going to say anyway?

It's not like the hate filled sewage spew they throw out is really shocking anymore, is it? Couldn't you go to a Klan rally and get the same mindless spewage, or maybe turn on Limbaugh, Hannity or some other R/W junkie?

I honestly think discourse here might be a little more civil without the influence of tiny-minded freepers.

Just a thought.

1. Yeah, anyone who wants to wallow in that shit knows where to find it, yet
every time some knuckledragging, genetically-damaged reactionary somewhere posts something especially stupid or cruel, someone else rushes breathlessly to DU to repost it. I don't understand that.

4. Actually we should be quoting their leaders, not them. Ex:
"See, in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."

~ George Bush, "President Participates in Social Security Conversation in New York," May 24, 2005

I just love the way he admits that he speaks "propaganda" and has no idea of the negative connotations of what he's saying. Doesn't he realize that propaganda means 'government lies' to most people?

Idiot.

8. Well, I side with you on the looter issue...
... but you know how a freeper would respond. Why bother going over there to see it for yourself, unless you just like reading things that piss you off.

Doesn't the administration do enough to piss you off already?

19. "half these people (here) have NEVER gotten out of their mom's basement"
Maybe that's why we don't see the protesting in the streets like we would've if this was the Vietnam era. Too many people can't take a break from their computers and get out and do something besides talk about it. It's way easier to complain from "mom's basement", as you call it, and watch someone else actually get out and take action.

But...

Never give up!!

6. The facination with it escapes me.
It just diverts our attention from the good fight. Screw them; they are not worth my time. They (at that site) don't have as much infuence as they think (despite the Andy situation). I say let's concentrate on what is in front of us.

20. Importance of crap
This is my first time posting anything on this site - I am new here and have never come across the word "freeper" before...I gather it refers to conservatives?
Anyhow, my point is that I find one thing important about reading and listening to that crap which makes our blood boil and pulse race: knowing what we are dealing with.
We do not know how to communicate with the other side until we understand what lies and misconceptions they are being fed. I do know some good Republicans who are simply misled because they do not take the time to research anything on their own, they watch Fox, CNN, etc. If we know what they are told we can have our "ducks in a row" and perhaps have a constructive debate. I have converted a couple of Republicans and if we are all able to convert just a few, things will turn around quick.

24. Well
having been here awhile I am telling you that after a bit it is all the same stuff from them (BTW mostly the freepers we are referring to are the members of Free Republic; a site like DU for Republicans. They tend to be a bit on the extreme side of their own political views)I always agree that to know your enemy is best; but some here tend to post EVERY time someone over there says ANYTING remotely ridiculous (which is about every other hour). There will always be level-minded ppl here who monitor that site (and the same happens to us); we don't need 10 ppl telling us what one could do very well; and wasting our time also. See what I mean?

I don't go there, and I don't read their trashy little opinions when they're posted here. Ignore buttons are great.

12. Isn't there some sort of way that we
can control what people read? I don't think that people whould be exposed to ideas that I disagree with. Maybe the profiles of people we know read "objectionable" websites can be marked somehow, you know like they did in Germany with pink triangles or yellow Stars of David.

15. Cute. The First Amendment angle.
I'm not talking about controlling what people read. I'm talking about self-control when you post.

I've never seen a "see what the freepers are saying" post that wasn't either flamebait or an opportunity to try and shock folks.

What I'm saying is that nothing they say over there should shock you, and they tend to be pretty damn nasty. Imho it lowers the bar HERE.

25. All sarcasm aside, I do see your point.
I know that it gives Freepers a lot of satisfaction to see us post there hate speech, even if it is to condemn it. I also am appreciative to DU for giving us a port in the conservative storm that is free from their drivel, but Freepers have proven a benefit to me on two occasions.

Twice in e-discussions with aquaintances on different issues, I have asked the person with whom I have been having a debate to look at the FR web page to see what sort of people they are, and what position they were taking on the issue. Freepers are filled with irrational hate and blind, robotic faith in ridiculous positions that they cannot support with logic (so they rely on name calling ie., Limbaugh, Hannity and Coulter). When you expose a person who is unsure about an issue to the blind hatred of the Freepers, believe me, progressive arguments become the most intelligent alternative.

FR gives the world a forum to see the hatred that we know is there.

17. Harsh, but it makes a good point...
How many of you would have known about how sick the FReepers really are unless you had the occasional DUer set foot in that morass to find out what's really going on? matcom knows all too well, so I appreciate his frustration, but what about those who are still relatively new to DU? FreeRepublic has always wanted to be the "silent partner" that kept the GOP installed in power, and here we go and blow their cover every single day.

Don't like it? It's not my fault. I'm not the one who starts those damn things over in FReeperland. But you'd better listen up and stay prepared for the next time they try to slander someone on our side.

21. Knowledge,
even of the thoughts seeping through your enemies' brains, is essential toward not only defining yourself, but toward helping those who cannot understand.

Despite the sickening remarks that come from these people, they are still that - people. Sometimes even they don't realize what they're saying until you call them out on it. They may seem too far removed, but they can still be helped.

I see a thread on "Free Republic," and I have to read. But I'm never shocked. I do get angry though, especially if the remark is callous.
