The Orleans Parish prisoners have taken over the jail, and are holding as hostages the jailers and their families. the families were brought to the prison for safety from the water. At least 4 children are involved. The poster who was so worried about the drowning prisoners: they are safe.

the prisoners were being evacuated at time of take-over....the parish prisoners number 5,000....only a few prisoners are participating...hostages being held in the Templeton Building, in a stairwell....one guard managed to phone his mother on cell phone, mother went to Super Dome and begged officials for help at the prison...
