200 Students trapped in Dorm at Xavier University...N.O......Lordy, lordy
A girl called in to WBRZ and said they had been text-messaging, slowly, with some students trapped in a Dorm (the Living Learning Center) at Xavier University in New Orleans. Said a dean was with them. They are running low on food and water. Damn. WBRZ will contact Office of Emergency Preparedness. It is just mind-boggling.

1. If they were medical students in Grenada...
...held against their will by nasty Cubans and Grenadan leftists, we'd send 75,000 people to get them out.

3. ...and in fact, the students in Grenada were NOT
being held against their will. They were merely waiting out a coup on the island.

According to the Canadian news broadcast I heard, the president of the medical school had received a personal guarantee from the leader of the coup that the students were welcome to stay and would not be harmed. The leader even gave the president a phone number to call if some rogue troops came on campus.

The students were not in danger until the U.S. troops came in like gangbusters.

I heard this on Canadian radio as the events were unfolding, but it wasn't published in the U.S. till about five years later.

2. This is heartbreaking. I'm so stunned and I pray for all of those
who are suffering and fighting for survival tonight.
