200 Students trapped in Dorm at Xavier University...N.O......Lordy, lordy |
|
A girl called in to WBRZ and said they had been text-messaging, slowly, with some students trapped in a Dorm (the Living Learning Center) at Xavier University in New Orleans. Said a dean was with them. They are running low on food and water. Damn. WBRZ will contact Office of Emergency Preparedness. It is just mind-boggling.

1. If they were medical students in Grenada... |
|
...held against their will by nasty Cubans and Grenadan leftists, we'd send 75,000 people to get them out.

3. ...and in fact, the students in Grenada were NOT |
|
being held against their will. They were merely waiting out a coup on the island.
According to the Canadian news broadcast I heard, the president of the medical school had received a personal guarantee from the leader of the coup that the students were welcome to stay and would not be harmed. The leader even gave the president a phone number to call if some rogue troops came on campus.
The students were not in danger until the U.S. troops came in like gangbusters.
I heard this on Canadian radio as the events were unfolding, but it wasn't published in the U.S. till about five years later.
