What I told parents tonight at info meeting at school- |
|
Keep in mind that probably a good 90% of our parent base is solid Mepublican.
1) I got to tell them that our class sizes are too large, some kids will have to be cut from my class and other classes to create a new class. Reason this was not done prior to the start of school is, of course, money is too tight to not wait until our enrollment numbers were solid for the year, even though we knew this would happen based on last year's numbers. This will not be good for these young kids whom we've already begun bonding with and the parents were visibly shaken by this news.
2) The district cannot afford to maintain the technology needed to run a wonderful computer-based math program that has helped many of our high-needs kids pass the standardized test in years past. You could hear a pin drop after I laid these items on them back to back. Read 'em and weep, Mepublicans. My angst was tapped out long ago.

1. the Mepublicans won't get it |
|
They will just use it to say "This is why liberal public education doesn't work", and some of them will send their kids to private schools. Then they will shout and protest about how they shouldn't have to pay taxes, since they already have to pay for their kids private education.
That's how the cycle works.
Liberals want to believe in free, quality education. Conservatives gut it and make sure it dies, then blame the left while sending their own kids to private schools.
When they get their way, only the richest Americans will have proper education.
Either that, or start looking for Corporate sponsorship.

5. Was told recently that our Mepublican rep in state lege- |
|
made the comment that if it made it to a vote, 80% of the lege would vote to dismantle public ed. immediately. Oddly enough, she's one of our staunchest supporters of public ed in the lege.

4. "some kids will have to be cut from my class" means I teach. |
|
"Mepublicans": Wish I could claim credit for coining that one but must give credit to one crusty old Democrat from PA.

Edited on Tue Aug-30-05 09:40 PM by Lifelong Protester
(mixed politically I think) that we won't be having as much Title I reading and math help because when I went to the workshop to find out what our allocation was I was told in no uncertain terms that a huge chunk of our education funding is heading to Iraq.
Why the hell should we care about our own children, eh? I mean, with the 9 BILLION that has been lost in prosecuting the war (lost due to an "accounting malfunction" or whatever) we could actually fully fund the IDEA, but hey.... republicans can afford private school, so why the hell would they care about public education being choked off by NCLB?
sorry, this is my main rant. :freak:
And I am a school principal.
