I am fed up and frustrated
Watching CNN now, 11PM ET.

Why were thousands of National Guard troops not there THIS MORNING?

Why is the military not dropping sand bags into the levee breaks NOW?

Why is attention being paid to the looters? Screw the looters!!! let them have at it I say. In terms of relative importance, the looting is nothing.

God I'm so sad. I want to go down there. I certainly encourage all to help anyway they can. I'm going to give monitarily until it hurts.

1. The looting is taking place
because the National Guard isn't there to provide law.

Welcome to DU

:hi:

It's OK to vent! You have some valid concerns. Have you tried a letter to the editor of your local paper?

3. Or better yet, turn off the fucking TV and TAKE A BREAK
That would serve a lot of DUers quite well, either that or Skinner needs to bring in some grief counselors.

8. Sure it is.....
But then again, it's unhealthy to obsess. And frankly, it's hard to deny the fact there is a hell of a lot of obsessing going on at DU lately. How can you argue taking a break from the TV coverage is a bad thing when one feels the way this poster does? Are you a masochist?

9. because most of us are news junkies
and this is the greatest story in years. This may well be the worst natural disaster in US history.

It's not obsessive - it's caring about what's happening.

12. Everyone cares
Well, everyone except *, but at some point it becomes unhealthy. You can care too much. Taking a break doesn't mean you don't care.

14. I understand
really, I do.

But I can't turn away. It's painful, but also interesting - we don't often get to see Nature's power expressed so forcefully here in the US. And we're seeing stories of great heroism and great loss. It's the ultimate drama.

And I guess I keep hoping for some good news that isn't going to come.

11. Seconded.
After crying for the whole afternoon and part of the evening (interspersed with hugs for my son)I am going to settle down with HPHBP and a nice freshly-brewed cup of Earl Gray and have a fantastic adventure in my head.

BTW to OP:WELCOME to DU!!!

7. I'm in the same boat, my friend.
You might try what another poster said, and vent in a letter to the editor of your local paper - it helps, trust me. I've started writing one every month as of late. As soon as I heard about the hurricane, I thought welp...so much for the National Guard stepping in like they always have. We have no National Guard anymore. Well, we do, but they're too busy being killed in Iraq, while our great leader rides bikes and goes skiing while on vacation.

Also, a big welcome to DU! :hi: We're glad to have you here with us! :pals:

13. The looting won't matter
if the place is under 15 feet of water. Why the levee repair attempt failed - well that's not getting much coverage.
