Only 4,000 National Guard Troops so far - Katrina
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 12:33 AM by Podface
CNN confirms 4,000 national Guard troops are now deployed to assist in the Katrina aftermath. This is the worst natural disaster in memory for the US. It is pitiful that our NATIONAL GUARD isn't mobilizing to help these people in numbers that sufficient to actually deal with the situation. No disrespect to the NG solders themselves, but what the fuck is going on????

30,000 people now in the super-dome.

80% of New Orleans under water earlier today, not to mention the rest of the state's coastal areas nearby.

Increased flooding NOW.

CNN says New orleans "looting zone".

How many people are trapped?

What, is the NG busy fighting rumwars?

CNN- New Orleans Mayor - It will get much worse.

You would think that our government, Democrats and repuplicans, would have used every resource available to help these people.

I'm from a major city, and 4,000 people couldn't control a sports center event gone bad.

Is anyone else absolutely bullshit about this? Man, this is the shit that really makes me wonder how idiots can be in charge of this country.

3. If Bush can't run the country in a National emergency,
Edited on Wed Aug-31-05 12:39 AM by Podface
and this IS his responsibility, the he will surely go down as the worst president of all time.

This definitely isn't the last hurricane this year, and quite possibly not the last war.

God, I hate him.

4. National Guard should NEVER leave to fight war...
The National Guard should NEVER be deployed away from American soil to fight a war, but rather be used to either fight at home protecting us, or to help out in national disasters. If Bush needed boots on the ground in Iraq, he should have drafted, plain and simple, rather than mis-allocate our national guard. We'd still be kinda screwed to some degree with a disaster of this proportion, but if ALL NATIONAL GUARD were in America at this time, instead of a good portion of them fighting in Iraq, I think the difference in effort, resources and presence would have been noticeable, and would be one less reason to point the finger at the fed for this failure of epic proportions.

5. Hear hear !
If Bush and the military hadn't been able to use the National Guard to help fight his miserable war maybe Bush would have been more apt to listen to those who opposed the invasion.

6. This is a bunch of bullshit the only reason they are there in such numbers
is because they are trying to secure sites for Bushs visit, I wonder how many blacks he'll have near him when he makes to LA?

7. The National Guard assigned to sandbag the levee today
was redirected to rescue people. Had there been sufficient National Guard, this wouldn't have been done. Had the levee been sandbagged, New Orleans wouldn't have lost the use of a pump.

New Orleans is filling with water now, and draining the city will take an additional 4 weeks because of this according to the mayor.
